Cave Trolls and other primitive versions of the Trolls created during Trolls World Tour are collected here.

About
[]

The ancestors of the six tribes are featured in Trolls World Tour three times.

They're first introduced by King Peppy, who speaks of the history of the Strings. However, it was later confirmed by the Funk Trolls that Peppy had gotten details on their ancestors incorrect.

The story goes that life was dull for the Trolls until one day one made a sound the others liked. They took 6 Strings to represent a different kind of music. The Trolls became 6 Tribes catering to Country, Funk, Pop, Rock, Classical and Techno, plus additional groups for "everything in between".

Unfortunately, the party ended with the Pop Trolls' ancestors when they stole the Strings and refused to let the others have their music. This caused a division, and the five other Tribes grabbed their strings and ran. The tribes became separated after this.

Little else is known on the ancestors and these ancient Trolls are mostly unknown. The little else described in promotional material tells that the Funk Trolls went to the furtherest part of Troll Kingdom to get away from the Pop Trolls as far as they could; they would live forever in fear of losing their music again. Meanwhile, the Rock Trolls harbored a grudge against the Pop Trolls. The Pop Trolls themselves would rewrite their history to hide the fact they caused the fallout of the Tribes.

Character Concept
[]

The ancestors of the Trolls went through some changes. Originally, they were primitive versions of modern Trolls, resembling cavemen. The concept was unused, as in the actual movie they used a different approach when talking about the ancestors of the six Tribes. The movie's plot was likely not finalized, and the direction overall not completed. This also happened in concepts for Trolls, with earlier aspects of the film being simply left unused.[1][2][3]

In an interview with Rolling Stone, it was confirmed that while the Rock Trolls weren't evil, the ancestors of the Pop Trolls had been purposely written to be villians. The idea had been there since early drafts of the movie and survived the re-writes. The main reason for the idea of keeping the Pop Trolls ancestors as evil was based on the idea of a teenager finding out their parents and the culture they grew up in was wrong. When Poppy finds out what their ancestors had done, it was a reality shock to her as a result.[4]

Trivia

In the Trollstopia episode Cloud Control, an ancient disco ball is excavated by antrollpologist Laguna Tidepool in the Pop village. However, it was immediately replaced by Cloud Guy, so the relic was either not genuine or immediately destroyed.
