On the first day of TrollsTopia, each Troll Tribe gathers for the first time to live in perfect harmony. Poppy hands out "Welcome to TrollsTopia" gift to everyone in the form of a potted plant. Val Thundershock is not impressed with the gift, Poppy tearing up explains as the plant grows, so may their friendship. Val asks Poppy if she is always like this and Poppy thinks Val is being humorous. She gives herself and TrollsTopia 1 week.

The episode fast forwards through a lot of scenes from the series so far showing Val and Poppy becoming close friends.

Val is air guitaring to herself when she comes across a group of Trolls. The Trolls show off the plants Poppy gave them on the first day of TrollsTopia. Rhythm says that Val must have been excited to see the plant sprout the fantastic fruits. Their called "Strong Plums", and Poppy has always planned that tonight will be a big party to share them with each other to celebrate as the plants grew so have their friendship. Val gets nervously overuses the word "Fruit" and rushes off to her home. Though the other Trolls agree with synth "Fruit" is a great word, Rhythm and Blues have some skepticism on the overuse from Val.

Val rushes back to Rock Hollow, but the Funk sisters open a portal in front of her and stop her. Val lets it out that there is no fruit as there is no plant - Val didn't take care of the plant. The sisters gasp and Val explains that when she came to TrollsTopia she was a different Troll and thought it was just a dumb plant from a pink Troll who was way too upbeat. Val didn't know that Poppy would end up as her best friend and tonight when she shows up without the plant she will know that Val didn't care about her gift. The Funk Sisters ask if she has considered time travel. Rhythm explains that she should go back in time and change the past and she can use theirs if she doesn't have one.

At their lab, they give Val a pair of skates with the ability to travel through time. There are a few rules, firstly they only have enough "time juice" to use the skates once so she must make it count. Secondly, she has only 1 hour to convince her past self to take care of the plant. Thirdly she must never let her past self know she's from the future or it may disrupt the course of history as they know it. Lastly to always have fun, with that they jump on Val and the trio travel back in time.

On the first day of TrollsTopia, Val is asking Poppy if she is "always like this" and Poppy thinks she is telling a joke before giving her and TrollsTopia a week. Val gets rid of the plant, but future Val get it, she knows two things about herself and that she rocks and the only way to convince herself to take care of it is to convince past self it rocks too. She puts on a wig and glasses, she rushes to herself and tries to convince her past self it rocks so hard, but past Val tells her if thats the case - she should keep it. When Future Val says that she doesn't want it, past Val says that she just said it Rocks so Hard. Panicking, Future Val tries to say she does not Rock hard enough to be worthy of this plant, which causes past Val to question if she doesn't Rock enough, then how can she trust her that the plant does rock. Val then realizes her past self is messing with her, her past self walks off and Val comments that she is good.

Next Val, along with Rhythm and Blues, try and sing "Plants Rock" to get through to Val to take care of her flower. Past Val almost grabs the plant during the song, but Demo interrupts as Bad Hair Day just released their newest song "Don't water your plant because Rocking out all day is more fun". Val is angry as she forget the band wrote that song, she tosses the wig and glasses aside and goes to tell her past self the truth.

Val approaches her past self and flat out says that she is from the future to her past self. Val begs her past self to take care of theplant, she knows she won't get it now but someday will be friends someday and will be best friends with Poppy and she will look back on this day with saddness it took so long to realize how cool Poppy was. At first, Val of the past seems to "get it" but she realises that living in TrollsTopia is going to make her so "Soft Rock". And future Val gets annoyed with that, but Past Val states if she is what she turns into, then she is moving back to Volcano Rock City right now.

Rhythm and Blues realize that this could change the course of history as future Val panics. She blocks her past self's past and tries to force her to take the plant, Val of the past then does something that future Val will fall for and looks away, at first Val doesn't look but does so even then knowing its a trick. Past Val then runs into a bush. Val chases after her and finds her gone.

At that moment, Poppy walks by pulling a cart of the plants, she spots Val and asks her if theres something wrong with the gift she gave her. Val comments she likes the gift, and without revealing anything, Val notes that it reminds her of a great gift a friend (Poppy) gave her a while ago and she didn't take care of it. Poppy notes that its okay to make mistakes, everyone grows over time and while she can't speak for her friend, she knows its okay. Val hugs Poppy. Past Val sees the pair hug.

Val thanks Poppy and notes that she always knows what to say, she presumes, Poppy walks off tickled by Val's comments. The Funk sisters approach Val, the skates are reacting and its time to go home. They grab her, and the trio shoots off, leaving the plant behind. Past Val picks it up.

A quick shot of them going back in time is shown before the trio return moments after their departure in the future. Blues apologises for the inability to convince past Val to take care of the plant. They turn around and see the plant, complete with a note next to it from Val. Her past self explains that after seeing her hug Poppy she decided to give TrollsTopia a chance. So she is heading back in time to make sure past "us" takes care of the plant, because she admits Poppy's worth it.

Later that evening, the Trolls gather with their fruits, Val shows Poppy her plant and recites the "for as the plant grows, so does our friendship" and adds her friendship is really important to her. The episode ends with the two hugging.

Trivia
[]

  • The title is a play on the term "Be my Valentine." It is part of the question "would you be my Valentine?", a popular question asked on Valentine's Day. The term "Valentine" refers to someone who has been chosen as the center of another's affection.
  • This episode marks 6 months of TrollsTopia since its beginning.
  • This is the first episode to have Val's name in the title.
  • This is the second 2D episode involving timetravel as such, the first was "Scrap To The Future".
    • As with the past episode, this is an example of a Casual Loop, and shows one as it is just about to begin. Val has gone back to the past to make sure past-Val takes care of the plant. However, future-Val's reason for heading back is lost since past-Val took care of the plant. So, to ensure the continuation of time as they know it, past-Val then had to go back and re-do the event to make sure her past self took care of the plant when she reached the same point of time in history that her future self had gone back from, starting a fresh new time loop. From this point onwards, the loop will continue unless a future event changes history and breaks the loop.
  • This episode shows the change and character development of Val Thundershock since she joined the series.
