Bruce, formerly named Spruce, is a major character in Trolls Band Together. He is a member of BroZone, and Branch's second eldest brother.

Appearance

As a younger teenager, Bruce had the same hairstyle as his brothers and looked similar to them but was a deep purple color. He was taller than Clay and Floyd, being older, but shorter then his elder brother John Dory. He also had "rock hard abs" and was proud of his bodies muscled physique. He was considered attractive to the rest of the Pop Trolls and a hunk.

As an adult, Bruce wears a typical 80s and 90s "surfer dude" outfit or 'surfing Kahuna' style appearance, with beach shorts, a necklace and loose shirt with styled back hair. He is apparently the second tallest brother after Clay and has a plump face and body, having lost his physical fitness of his youth. Despite his physical fitness having waned, he is still considered attractive to female Pop Trolls and also for women Vacaytioners.

Personality

Bruce was the handsome member of BroZone as he was aware of his own good looks and charms. Bruce is a hard worker and dedicated to whatever he sets his mind to. In the past that was to maintain John Dory's "perfect" image and his hard rock abs, whereas in the present day it is about running things on Vacay Island and his restaurant. He has a laid back approach to life and though recalls events of BroZone is not in a rush to relive those days, as he is happy where he is. Bruce, being a dad, tends to baby others like Branch and Tiny Diamond.

However, Bruce can sometimes lose his cool whenever he or those he cares about are being treated unfairly, as he would scold them for it, mainly John Dory. Although he can act like a jerk and has made many mistakes, Bruce's good qualities will always shine through, such as his bravery, care for others and friendliness. Also, Bruce truly cares about his friends and loved ones, as he would do anything to help them, especially if they are in serious trouble. Sometimes, Bruce would make the wrong assumption before getting the facts, seen when he took John Dory's intention of coming to see him the wrong way until he tells him that Floyd was in trouble.

In addition, Bruce can be clever and resourceful, as he can come up with a plan to help those he cares about in defeating their enemies.

Grandma Rosiepuff

Bruce's relationship with his grandmother is unknown but he did care about her as she took him and his brothers in. Hearing what happened to her through Branch, Bruce was in stunned silence and devastated to hear his grandmother's fate.

Brothers/BroZone

Bruce got along with his three youngest brothers, but struggled with his older sibling, John Dory. Generally in their last concert things had gone wrong and Bruce and Clay both spoke up against their elder brother and all three in rage quit, leaving the youngest two behind. As a result, Floyd and Branch were left exposed to danger without their elder three brothers there to protect them. Though Bruce displayed no interest in returning, John Dory received a postcard titled "Wish You Were Here" and Vacay Island.

Though they reunited, Bruce found it difficult to accept Branch was now an adult and though he was happy to see Clay ignored John Dory because he still could not forgive him for their shared past. Although, because of Bruce's unforgiving attitude towards John Dory, his older brother briefly returned to his old ways with Clay backing him up. However, unlike when the band broke up, their rowing was met with a protest from Branch. Branch, being an adult had more clarity to the issues at hand and could finally speak up against what he saw going wrong and told Clay and Bruce how they treated him as much as they hated John Dory for treating them the same, as all three couldn't get past him being the baby.

Towards the end of the movie, they are on much better terms and intend to rebuild their relationship as a family.

Clay

Clay is Bruce's first younger brother and is very close with him as they have a handshake they do together. Upon reuniting with Clay, Bruce was clearly happy to see his younger brother again and is very impressed with his new style. He even feels flattered that Clay likes his new name “Bruce”. Also, Bruce appreciates Clay in having his back, especially if it's against John Dory. In addition, Bruce was surprised that Clay would go out of his way in correcting John Dory but does appreciated it nevertheless. Bruce is even proud of how much Clay has grown up and matured, as he chose Floyd's safety over staying with Viva and is delighted that he used tax evasion as payback for everything Velvet and Veneer put them and their brothers through. Hearing that Clay felt he wasn't being respected by him and their brothers, Bruce felt guilty about it and decided to be more supportive to him.

Floyd

Floyd is Bruce's second younger brother and got along with him. Upon hearing that he was in trouble through John Dory, Bruce was in shock and wanted to call the authorities about Floyd's capture until his older brother explain that he was in a diamond prison. Bruce at various moments show concern for Floyd's well-being, even Brandy's points out that he would never forgives himself if he didn't go save his brother. However, Bruce ends up regretting in leaving Floyd when he realized that his actions exposed him to danger and blames himself for his capture. Also, upon finding him, Bruce was happy to see Floyd again and relived that he was okay, even though he got captured as well and a lot of his life essences was drained out of him. Seeing Floyd sacrifice himself for him and their brothers, Bruce was in shock he would do that for them and tried to get him to wake up when he didn't have any life left, but didn't get a respond as he became heartbroken. However, Bruce and their brothers own life essences and love ends up saving Floyd. Hearing and seeing Floyd coming to, Bruce is relived that his brother is alive and embraces him. Also, Bruce decided to make things right with Floyd for everything he put him through.

Branch

Branch is Bruce's youngest brother and usually got along with him. Upon seeing Branch all grown up, Bruce immediately goes to greet him. However, Bruce treats Branch like he is still a baby as he teases him. Also, when John Dory hurt Branch's feelings when he wanted all of them to be a family again, Bruce feels bad but gets annoyed of how his youngest brother handled his argument with their older sibling as he tells him to not be a baby. Bruce ends up getting snapped at by Branch for his behavior and treating him like he was the same brother he remembered. Despite this, Bruce does care about Branch as he cheer him up during a performance on Vacay island and tries to provide some comfort when they thought they lost Floyd. In addition, upon realizing his mistake in leaving him and hurting him, Bruce attempted to make it right by catching up with Branch and apologizes to him, after realizing that he and their friends went to rescue Floyd by themselves. Hearing his words of wisdom, Bruce comes to terms that Branch has grown up and mature. Bruce intends to make it up to Branch by improving their relationship.

John Dory

John Dory is Bruce's older brother and had issues with him. Also, when his older brother came to him for help in saving Floyd, Bruce took John Dory's intentions the wrong way until he fully explains the situation. Although he was skeptical of John Dory's intentions to do the perfect family harmony to save Floyd, Bruce is convinced that his older brother wasn't lying about their younger sibling being in trouble as he never gave him a reason not to believe him. Bruce was torn about his feelings towards John Dory but he ends up accusing him of not caring about their family at all. However, Bruce realizes how wrong he was about John Dory and that he truly wanted to save Floyd for the right reasons.

Bruce does warm up to John Dory as he happily accepts both a side hug and a fist bump. Also, Bruce is shown to enjoy teaming up with John Dory to cheer up Branch. In addition, Bruce was surprised to see John Dory being nice and optimistic, due to Poppy's positive influence rubbing off on him. Bruce even realized that John Dory tried to correct his past mistakes, which is enough for him to know that he is truly sorry for his actions and forgives him. They have some form in trust as they seem to know each other well enough to know their intention or plan. They both make up after nearly losing Floyd and Bruce decided to work on improving his relationship with his older brother.

Brandy

Bruce is shown to love and respect his wife very much. Despite their size difference, the two "made it work".

Children

Bruce spends much of his days looking after his kids with Brandy and is a good father overall, though shows some issues due to the size differences of him and his half-Troll and half-Vacay Islander kids, as they are more than twice the size of his height. He has one daughter and twelve sons according to The Art of DreamWorks Trolls Band Together.

While in BroZone, Bruce was the subject of a competition where someone could win a date with him. Doreen was the female Troll who won a date with him. A snip of the interview she gave afterwards was location on Branch's clueboard, apparently they went to a location called "Senior Frosty's". She had a soft serve ice-cream while he had a Tropical Sunset. Considering no mention of her outside the magazine clip appears in the movie, and Bruce's expression on their date, he harbored no feelings for her and their date led to no further relationship afterwards.

Queen Poppy

Bruce takes a quick liking to Poppy when he first meets her and is impressed with her good looks. Also, he is secretly amazed of how well Poppy gets along with his kids. Bruce easily figured out that Poppy is Branch's girlfriend and approves their relationship. Upon seeing her motiving him to prove his kids and everyone on Vacay Island wrong about him being in a band with his brothers, Bruce becomes grateful to Poppy for reviving his interest in singing and having fun with his brothers again. Bruce, like the rest of his brothers, bond with her and start to view Poppy as a close friend and member of the family.

Tiny Diamond

Bruce has a good relationship with Tiny, due to being a father himself. He either baby-carries or shelters Tiny with his lush hair.

Viva

Although not much interaction with Viva, Bruce is quick to consider her a friend because of how welcoming and nice she was to him. Bruce is even grateful to Viva for saving him and John Dory from Veneer.

Enemies

Velvet

Bruce used to listen to Velvet's music, but loses all of his respect for her after learning that she has abducted Floyd. After watching her tormenting his brothers, and learning through Veneer's confession on how she also regards her own relatives as trash, Bruce is simply glad that she has lost all of her dignity publicly in front of him and the other Trolls.

Veneer

Bruce said he and his family preferred Veneer's music style, but is later turned off by how he is involved in Floyd's abduction. He briefly loses his respect for Veneer who detains him in the shoulder pads, but regains his lost respect for the Rageon boy after watching Veneer admitting the criminal charges and denouncing Velvet publicly. Bruce is therefore glad that Floyd has found a good friend in him, and is willing to accept Veneer again in the near future.

Bruce was a member of BroZone, once the most popular of the Pop Trolls boyband. Poppy was familiar with them as their music was played long after their split.

At some point, he learnt how to surf at Vacay Island.

He co-owns a business with his wife, Brandy, at Bruce & Sons and One Daughter. Also, he gets his business skills through his older brother John Dory.

Driving

He is able to drive his older brother John Dory's house bus, the Armadillo named Rhonda, with ease, even having help from Tiny Diamond.

Intelligence

Despite his size and usually relaxed demeanor, he is clever and intelligent as he is able come up with ideas on how to use his weakness to his advantage, such as using his diamond prison to help Branch and their friends save their two captured brothers, Clay and Floyd, from Velvet by getting her to fall over.

Age and Birth Details

Like many Trolls characters, his age is vague. However, a rough estimation can be placed. Branch in Trolls Band Together estimated to be 24+ based upon the BroZone website and Floyd's blog update. Branch was a baby at the time and Floyd is quite a few years older then Branch. John Dory being the oldest brother is likely in his 30s by Trolls Band Together. Bruce is likely at least a year younger then John Dory, at least a year older then Clay and at least two years older then Floyd.

Etymology

"Bruce" is a type of evergreen tree, but it also refers to making something neat, well-groomed, elegant and tidy. However, because of the first meaning, he, like his brothers, has a name connected to nature. "Bruce" isn't commonly used as a personal name, hence the shift to "Bruce".

His currently preferred name Bruce is also connected to nature, as some of its definitions define it as thick bushes.

• Bruce and John Dory appeared in a leaked concept art in October 2022. They were the second character reveal after Viva in May 2022 at the Licensing Expo 2022.
  • Bruce's current design is seen during the 1st Trailers "hussle" animation.
  • The first time the design was seen in 3D was in the Trolls Band Together sticker activity book.
• Bruce as a youth is the second Pop Troll "pretty boy" character introduced, with Creek having previously also been exampled as one, but in a different way.
• Despite being the second oldest of his brothers, Bruce's voice actor Daveed Diggs is actually a year older than Eric André, John Dory's actor, although he is a year younger than Justin Timberlake Branch's actor.
• Bruce is the first known Troll who has wedded and crossbred with another species.

• In Trolls Band Together: The Junior Novelization, Bruce and Clay were originally going to have a more in-depth interaction when they reunited, which was Bruce playfully teasing Clay's romper, and Clay in response gladly admitted so in a "you got me" gesture.
