Synopsis
[]

After Val accidentally smashes Holly's prized Cheery Glo-mato, she must work with Poppy to get rid of her guilt by making things right with Holly.

Plot
[]

Val Thundershock is playing for her fellow Rock Trolls at Rock Hollow and does a guitar smash. Though she smashes the stage, she is dissatisfied with the smash itself. She decides she can't end a epic solo on a lame smash, so she seeks out other things to smash Each one is either too dry, too crunchy, which times her crowd to respond with a positive cheer and then a disappointed reaction as they agree with Val. Eventually, she finds a small red fruit. Smashing it it satisfies her and she is lifted up and celebrated by her fellow Rock Trolls.

As they celebrate an epic smash, Holly Darlin' is upset because Val smashed the Cheery Glo-mato she was going to show in the Country Corral fair the following month. Val seems unphased by why Holly is angry at her and Holly is holding back her anger as she speaks. Poppy is left in the middle of the situation, and although it ends with Val saying she didn't know, Holly walks off trying to not let what Val did get to her. Poppy notices Val didn't really show empathy for what she did and needs to make it right with Holly. Poppy says that her consciousness will get her eventually, but Val denies that as Holly said they were cool and denies her becoming conscious, frustrating Poppy.

Val gets some ice cream. While waiting in line, she greets Smidge, who is ahead of her. Smidge greets her back, but Val hears her say "Hey Glo-mato", even though she actually said "Hey Val". Val awkwardly ends the conversation and takes an ice cream, in which she imagines the ice cream being handed to her by the vendor; in the cone is a Glo-mato. As a Techno Troll nearby blows bubbles, she only sees them in the shape of the Glo-mato. Val is freaking out over seeing and hearing Glo-mato, and then she sees a talking imaginary Glo-mato appear before her on her left shoulder.

She screams and runs to Poppy for help. Poppy is confused as only Val can see the Glo-mato. Poppy guesses what's going on and states her deeply undeveloped consciousness is haunting her in the form of a Glo-mato. Poppy explains that to get rid of a consciousness, she has to think about what she did and express herself to show she deeply regretted her actions. Poppy suggests a card, Val does that but not only did she spell her name wrong but Holly's. Val is panicking as she has never done this before. Her consciousness appears to be getting worse as the Glo-mato is now much, much bigger. Poppy says that when she feels regret she writes a song, which Val sees as a solution.

Poppy visits Holly, who has moved on from her misfortune and has made cookie dough sculptures, but as she talks she's clearly still upset about what Val did. Val appears, proclaiming she wrote a song for Holly, which Poppy soon realizes could be bad. As Val sings, the Glo-mato haunting her grows even bigger. To make matters worse, her loud Rock music has destroyed Holly's cookie dough sculptures. Holly is once again upset and needs a moment to get over her upset. Val is distraught as she worsened things. Suddenly, the ground shakes beneath her feet and the Glo-mato haunting her is now larger than ever.

It turns out what Poppy said about the consciousness getting Val was taken by Val literally. Poppy corrects her, as she didn't mean it would literally eat her; she meant her feelings of empathy and regret would make her feel bad. Now that this is settled, Val talks to her imaginary Glo-mato about empathy and he helps her resolve it, but offering tea. Poppy is left confused, but clearly happy with the result.

Later, Val visits Holly, who is still showing anger at Val for her actions, Val shows empathy and finally apologizes, saying that she actually for the first time in her life listened to her consciousness. She does what she should have done in the first place and gives her a new Glo-mato, offering to help her grow it in time for the fair as with more Trolls cheering it, it should be ready in time. Holly gets so happy that they hug each other. The imaginary Glo-mato leaves and goes away, now that it is not needed anymore.

Later, the three Trolls are seen cheering the new young Glo-mato and it grows. Although Val is a bit begrudged at her empathy and is reluctant, she still cheers with them anyway.

Trivia
[]

  • "Cheery Glo-mato" is a play on "Cherry Tomato", Val even mistakenly calls it that during the episode.
  • The glo-mato spinning its head in 360° is a reference to the The Exorcist.
  • Val confuses empathy for the word "empanada", a type of baked pastry.
  • How the imaginary Glo-mato leaves is a reference to Mary Poppins.
  • The Glo-mato is likely a reference to the spoof horror movie Attack of the Killer Tomatoes.
  • At one point, the Glo-mato acts like a shoulder angel and devil.
  • The ice cream vendor from Trolls: The Beat Goes On! returns here, complete with the same voice as heard in "Doc Doc, Who's There?". The voice actor remains uncredited despite having made several appearances in both series.
  • The episode itself is somewhat a parrel to the episode "Creek Week" as both Branch and Creek had a personnel struggle related to forgiveness. In Branch's case he struggled to forgive Creek for the events of Trolls, which lead to him being in the position where he had to apologize to Creek for mistrusting him after he made Creek feel unwelcomed back in the village. In this episode, Val struggles with empathy, resulting in her having difficulty with her sincerity and execution of her apology to Holly.
