"Classical Rock" is the first segment of the 7th episode of the first season of Trolls: TrollsTopia, and the 12th overall episode in the series. It premiered on November 19, 2020.
Synopsis[]
When Poppy discovers that Rock Troll Demo has been sneaking into Classical Crest to play classical guitar, she promises to keep it a secret from Val.
Plot[]
Val Thundershock wakes Poppy up from her sleep by playing music very loudly. It turns out Val wasn't going to walk all the way to her pod, so she made Poppy walk all the way to her. She needs Poppy's help because her manager Demo has been acting weird lately and she needs Poppy to find out why. When Poppy asks if she tried talking to him, she says that she isn't good at the mushy side of things, but Poppy is. Poppy is happy, as it means Val is worried about her friend. Her reaction annoys Val, who asks if she is going to talk to him or not.
Demo sneaks into Rock Hollow to put back a guitar upon nearing the couch, Poppy pops out from behind a cushion. She creates a barrier with her hair so the two can have a private conversation. Though Demo asks why she is there, Poppy notes she is not the one sneaking into their own home trying to not get noticed. Poppy notes the tone of his voice crack means something is wrong, and she puts pressure on him to reveal.
He runs away and as he runs, Poppy guesses he is sneaking out at night towards Classical Crest, meaning this has something to do with the Classical Trolls. Demo is confused to how she can guess this. Her second guess is that he is playing Classical music with them. He admits she is correct, but asks her to keep her voice down and get out of his head.
They visit Classical Crest. It turns out Demo has been playing classical guitar. Minuet Sonata notes that Demo's delicate touch and mannerisms are very odd for a Rock Troll, but his traits are in-line with Classical.
When he is done playing, Poppy asks why he would keep it a secret. Demo explains Hard Rock Trolls don't do gentle and sensitive, especially Val, who gives everyone "the face" if they do anything that doesn't "rock". Poppy realizes Demo is afraid to be judged, but says he shouldn't hide his love of Classical culture. Demo says that while he likes Classical guitar, he denies loving the culture he does, but when given flattery by Dante Crescendo, his mannerisms mimic a Classical Troll. In panic, he admits he loves it and asks Poppy to not tell Val. Poppy replies that Val is not very good at keeping secrets, even her own. He begs her, as he's practicing for a big concert in Classical Crest that weekend, and he can't fear "the face" from Val until after the show.
She has to report to Val about Demo, but pretends everything is fine, though is struggling. In a turn of tables, Val is now the one noticing Poppy's voice crack tone. Unlike Poppy, however, Val makes no attempt to come to a conclusion what that means. She walks away.
The next morning, Poppy greets the day but turns around to Val and Demo standing behind her in her Pod. Val caught Demo leaving Rock Hollow that morning. Both Trolls are panicking as they try and maintain a form of lie, Demo claims he was helping Poppy pick out new speakers today. Val is satisfied with the answer and says she will join them.
At a new set of speakers, Val cranks them to the loudest setting and plays, causing quit a sound wave. Demo sneaks off while Val is distracted.
The next morning, history repeats itself, and Val and Demo appear behind Poppy as she goes to greet the morning. This time, Val claims that they're spending the day detonating pyrotechnics. Poppy says her eyebrows are too cute to get blown off and says they have to tell Val the truth. Poppy then in a panic can't, and says they were planning a surprise birthday party for her. Val is confused as her birthday is ten months away. Demo leaves in a hurry. After he leaves, Val says Demo's been spending time with the Classical Trolls. Val figured it out because when Poppy and Demo took a toast to Val's birthday, he extended his pinky finger. She causes Poppy to spit out her coffee and says Demo is hiding something, and she's visiting Classical Crest to get to the bottom of the mystery. But she still wants that surprise party she was promised.
Poppy tries to intercept Val before she finds out. Butt-jumping in the Dune Buggy, she fails to get ahead of Val. The Dune Buggy climbs the tree. She beats Val, but when she opens the elevator Pod, Val is behind her and has no explanation for how she did that. Val sees Demo and demands she knows what he's doing there, asking what the non-Rock guitar is for. Poppy says he wasn't going to play it, but rather smash it. Demo can't bring himself to smash the guitar, and finally confesses what he has been up to. He plays the guitar to show her. Eventually, Val explains what "the face" is about; she struggles to deal with mushy things and pulls a face while trying, thus "the face" is a misunderstanding. Val actually likes it because she feels something when he plays.
At the concert, Val has invited other Trolls from other Tribes to hear his playing. Val head bangs to the music, and when Poppy notes the Classical culture is rubbing off on her, she denies it, but as she drinks she accidentally extends her pinky. She tells Poppy that she is not allowed to tell anyone about her doing that.

- The "classical guitar" is a precursor to the acoustic guitar, though said term is often applied as another name for the latter instrument.

- The Season 2 episode "Hopscotch Extreme" makes three nods to this one:
- Biggie says Poppy's comment of "hopscotch is overrated", which she's the first to react to.
