Clay is a character in Trolls Band Together. He is the (formerly) fun member of BroZone, and Branch's third older brother. He and Viva are the co-leaders of the Putt Putt Trolls.
Appearance[]
Clay as a younger teenager had yellow hair and blue eyes, the same pointed hairstyle as his brothers, as well as lighter skin than he has as an adult. He wore wristbands and vest that were both in yellow, and white trousers.
As an adult, he has messy lime green hair, and the same blue colored eyes. He sports a dark green sweater romper with a small argyle pattern on the front. He also yellow and white wristbands similar to the ones he wore during his BroZone days but with the colors inverted. He has a normal Putt Putt Troll appearance overall, as most of them resemble his appearance with exceptions like Viva. His clothing is a reference to golfing attire. He differs a little from a standard Pop Troll, being the tallest and most slender of his brothers.
Since Trolls can change their hair color, his hair becoming green as an adult is most likely a means of camoflouge similar to the other Put-Put trolls, though his hair color is different than the color of his body.

Personality[]
Clay was the prankster of the band, being the one who loved to have fun the most. Despite his reputation, he actually wanted to be taken seriously and grew tired of being viewed as "the fun one". He even joined a sad book club before BroZone split. Although he was okay with singing and dancing with those he is close with, Clay actually had stage fright as he gets nervous to perform in front of large crowds, but put it aside for his brothers. Even in the past, Clay was much more serious than his image portrayed him as and was not only forward, but cynical of John Dory's leadership, even though he did listen to him. Also, Clay would go along with what ever his older brothers would do, as part of the reason he quit the band and left was because his older siblings did it first. Clay was even fine with leaving his brothers again after they rescue Floyd when John Dory tells them they could go their separate ways. Despite this, Clay does follow his heart, especially when it comes to those who are closes to him, and would trust his instincts.
Once away from the band, he was finally allowed to be the Troll he wanted to be, as he became a hard-working leader and CPA. He spends his days helping Viva run the Hole N' Fun, adhering to being a responsible manager of the other Putt Putt Trolls. However, when not being forced, he is still able to pull off jokes and have fun around with Viva. Although people take him more seriously, he is shown to still be desperate for people to see him as more than "the fun one", taking up having the small admin building as his bedroom and only doing "the well-oiled robot". Clay is not afraid to speak his mind and express his opinion, even if his friends and loved ones would disagree with him, as he would rather say what he believes is right then say nothing at all.
Despite being selfish at times, Clay is really sweet and kindhearted who would do anything to help those he loves and cares about, as he didn't hesitate to help his family rescue Floyd and defended Branch from John Dory during an argument. Through his friendship with Viva and her influence, Clay shakes off a lot of his older brother's bad behavior, as he becomes both a selfless leader to the Putt Putt Trolls and big brother to his younger siblings. Clay also learns to step up and not be afraid to take chances, especially going out into the world.
During the adventure to save Floyd, Clay comes to realize that both his past and current self is what makes him who he is. Also, after achieving the perfect family harmony with his remaining brothers in order to save Floyd, Clay has overcome his stage fright and is no longer bothered in performing in front of big crowds, as he happily accepts Branch's invitation to come up to sing with him and Kismet.

Clay's relationship with his grandmother is unknown but he did care about her as she took him and his brothers in. Hearing what happened to her through Branch, Clay was in shock and devastated to hear his grandmother's fate, but did take a little bit to process as he asked his older bothers about their younger siblings' claim that she got eaten.

Clay was a teenager when BroZone broke up, him and Spruce being sick of John Dorys obsession with them being perfect and adhering to their band personas. In an argument after not acheiving the perfect family harmony, Clay expresses how the band used to be fun before John Dory made it about being perfect. Following Johns example, Clay and Spruce leave the band and their youngest brothers Floyd and Baby Branch. Clay leaves to find Trolls that would take him seriously without looking back.
He seemingly had no contact from any of his family until twenty plus years later as an adult when Branch, John Dory, and Bruce came to find him so they could get his help in order to save their brother Floyd. Clay is glad to see Bruce and immediatly begins catching up with him, greeting him warmly. He greets a now adult Branch as if he was still a baby, failing to truly acknowledge that he had grown up. It's clear that he still cares about his brothers and values them above all else, as he agrees to help them and even goes against his friend to go save Floyd. He is also not afraid to stand up for his brothers as he stood up for Branch and Bruce during an argument with John Dory. In addition, Clay corrected John Dory that their brother goes by Bruce instead of Spruce.
When John once again tries to boss them around, Clay, who had having enough of his oldest brother, accuses him of still being the same as before and not caring about their family. Due to the emotions of the argument, Clay agrees with John Dory when he says they can just go their separate ways when they were done saving Floyd, causing an upset Branch, who had enough of them treating him like a baby, to put his foot down and voicing his feelings about their bickering and how they (Clay and Spruce) may have been mad at John Dory but Branch gets the same treatment from them. Branch speaking up shocks all three into silence. Clay feels guilty for never thinking about where Branch might have ended up after he left, and realizes that their grandmother had been eaten and he didn't even know. The three brothers decided to wait on fixing things between them as they agreed that saving Floyd and apologizing to Branch was more important. Unfortunately, the three waiting on amending things between them would come back to bite them as they were still arguing with each other, especially as it caused them to get captured by Velvet and Veneer.
Towards the end of the movie, they are on much better terms and intend to rebuild their relationship as a family. Clay, also on behalf of their brothers, apologizes to Branch for not having been around to see him grow up.
Floyd[]

Floyd is Clay's first younger brother and got along with him. Upon hearing about his capture, Clay is quick to say yes on helping his remaining brothers rescue Floyd. Also, Clay chose Floyd's safety as he doesn't want to lose him and gets concern for him. In addition, Clay felt great guilt when he realized that he exposed Floyd to danger and come to blame himself for his capture. Seeing Floyd put his life on the line to save him and their brothers, Clay was in shock and devastated that he lost his life as he was heartbroken. However, through his and his remaining brother's life essences and love, Clay ends up saving Floyd and is relived that he is alive. Clay intends to improve his relationship with Floyd as his way of making things right for everything he put him through.

Branch is Clay's youngest brother and gets along with him. Upon seeing Branch all grown up, Clay quickly gives him a hug and plays with his face. However, Clay treats Branch like he is still a baby. Also, Clay was in shock when Branch snapped at him for his behavior and treating him like a baby. Despite this, Clay does care about Branch as he defends him during an argument with John Dory. In addition, upon realizing his mistake and his youngest brother truly cared about him, Clay attempts to make it right by catching up with Branch and apologizes to him, after realizing that he and their friends went to rescue Floyd by themselves. Hearing his words of wisdom, Clay comes to terms that Branch has grown up and mature. Clay intends to improve his relationship with Branch as he invites him to his book club in an attempt to make amends and reconnect with him.

John Dory is Clay's oldest brother and has issues with him. At first, upon reuniting, Clay still holds animosity toward his oldest brother, coldly greeting John Dory simply calling him "John" and ignoring his attempt to hug him. Later, he seems to warm up to his brother albeiet a bit awkwardly when John Dory hugs him without much chance to decline. Clay stops him from taking over the plans to save Floyd, realizing that his brother may not have changed, later using another moment like this as confirmation that he hadn't. Nevertheless, Clay happily accepts a fist bump from John Dory. Also, Clay realized how wrong he was to assume that John Dory didn't care and decides to improve his relationship with him.

Spruce is Clay's second older brother and is much closer with him as they have a handshake they do together. Clay is quick to accept Bruce as Spruce's new name as he tells him that he got fancy and liked it. Also, Clay isn't afraid to back Spruce up when he needed it the most.

Clay and Viva are close friends and business partners who have a playful relationship. When Clay stumbled upon the golf course with his fellow Trolls, Viva took him in. Viva is thankful for Clay handling all "the boring stuff". He is her right-hand man, always being grateful for her allowing him to be true to himself, glad to not have to worry about not being taken seriously by her. He additionally knows about her past, and was also upset that he had to leave her behind temporarily. Viva was surprised and hurt by this, but understands his intentions to help his family. He was grateful when she arrived to help rescue him from Velvet’s clutches.

Clay takes a liking to Poppy when he first meets her and happily accepts a hug from her. Seeing the way Branch looks at her, Clay realizes that Poppy is his youngest brother's girlfriend and approves their relationship. Also, Clay seems happy to realize that Poppy and Viva were related.

Velvet[]
Clay understandably does not like Velvet and they are considered enemies. She kidnapped his younger brother Floyd and nearly killing him, even trying to do the same to him and his older brothers John Dory, and Bruce. She showed no remorse. Clay charged her with tax fraud and repossessed her and her brothers Yacht, much to her ire.
Veneer[]
Initially, Clay considered Veneer to be his enemy too, due to Floyd being captured, and Veneer showing little care for the Trolls' lives when they captured him and the others. Despite repossessing the siblings' yacht afterwards and still being a bit wary, he seems to respect Veneer now, after he confessed and apologized for his actions.

He has most normal Troll abilities, those of his tribe and those of a Putt Putt Troll.
Music[]
Clay was a member of BroZone, once the most popular of the Pop Trolls boyband. Poppy was familiar with them as their music was played long after their split.
Dancing[]
It is implied in his line "this isn't my choreo" that he did the choreographies for BroZone. Hes shown to enjoy doing little dances, also adding his own flair to some of brozones dances like spins.
Comedy[]
While reluctant to label himself as "Funny", he still enjoys joking around with his friends and family. He accidentally does funny things when trying to be serious, and is funny when he's trying to be too.
Literature[]
Clay is an avid reader and was part of a sad book club before BroZone broke up. He continued to read over the next twenty plus years and seemed to have started a new sad book club in the abandoned golf course.
Economic and Financial Knowledge[]
During his period away from his brothers, Clay had trained and certified himself as a licensed CPA. This is demonstrated both when he offers to keep track of the groups spending, and when he tells Velvet and Veneer about their tax evasion and that he needs to repossess their yacht to pay off their taxes.
Leadership[]
He co-leads the Putt Putt Trolls with Viva as he takes care the boring stuff and helped build their society. Also, Clay co-trains the Putt Putt Trolls to prepare for a potential Bergen attack. However, unlike the rest of the Putt Putt Trolls who stay at their home out of fear of the Bergens and the outside world, Clay stay so he won't leave Viva alone. Clay gets his leadership skills through his oldest brother John Dory as he is the only one beside Viva that the Putt Putt Trolls would follow, except outside their home.
Similar to Poppy, Clay is willing to help anyone in trouble, including his friends and family, and won't hesitate to go out into the world to do it. However, unlike Poppy, John Dory and Viva until they realized their mistakes, Clay is willing to listen, unless he is really upset, and hear others out, as he isn't afraid to explore new ways for himself.

Clay has shown to be intelligence, as he is quick to figure out Floyd's predicament after being explain the situation by his brothers and Poppy.

Like many Trolls characters, his age is vague. However, a rough estimation can be placed. Branch in Trolls Band Together estimated to be 24+ based upon the BroZone website and Floyd's blog update. Branch was a baby at the time and Floyd is quite a few years older then Branch. Clay is likely at least two years younger then John Dory, at least a year younger then Spruce and at least a year older then Floyd. John Dory being the oldest brother is likely in his 30s by Trolls Band Together.

Etymology[]
"Clay" is a type of mud which has grains of sand and rock in it, it is known for its ability to be shaped into various forms and is used in pottery to create art, containers or masonry materials used for building work. Like his brothers, he has a name connected to nature.

- He shares his name with a Troll named "Clay" from Trolls: Crazy Party Forest!.
- Clay was the last brother to have his adult-design revealed, only the tip of his hair could be seen on the Trolls Band Together poster. His head design was seen first in the Cakebites promotions. His design was finally revealed around the 20th of July, 2023 including on merchandise such as the Trolls Band Together: The Junior Novelization.
- Although he is the middle child of his brothers, Clay's voice actor, Kid Cudi, is actually a few years younger than Justin Timberlake, Branch's actor, Daveed Diggs, Spruce's actor and Eric André, John Dory's actor.
- Clay and Viva have been hint as being a canon couple. The Trolls' official Twitter account confirmed their ship name on the aforementioned platform, which is Cliva.[3]
