Demo is a character from Trolls: TrollsTopia. He is a delegate from the Rock Troll Tribe who came to reside in TrollsTopia, and also serves as the manager for Val Thundershock's band. Demo, along with Val Thundershock and Blaze Powerchord are the 3 most common Rock Trolls seen in the series.

Appearance

Normal

Demo is a Rock Troll with muddy blue skin, dark blue hair in a large spiky style, and a soul patch on his chin. He wears a white vest, a purple and black stripped necktie, wine-colored pants, and a black studded belt. He also has black ear studs.

Demo talks with a rough American accent, similar to the style often portrayed of American rockers.

Official Bios

Personality

Demo comes off as more soft in comparison to other Rock Trolls, especially Val. In "Girls' Night", the fact Poppy and the other female Trolls would let him participate in their girls' night causes Demo to drop his tough side and join them, even letting them do him a makeover. Demo enjoys the more boring things Trolls like Val find uninteresting such as preparations for concerts, and he knows how Rock Trolls think and feel. He isn't always on the spot with this and does make mistakes.

He is also shown to possess a like for Classical culture, with a passion for playing Classical guitar and even adopting some of the Classical Trolls' mannerisms, like their formal speech and extending the pinky finger while drinking. When he objects to something, he often says "nay" instead of "no", and overall uses a broader vocabulary range than most other Rock Trolls. He often uses uncommon English words alongside common ones in sentences as a result, which this him sound a bit more sophisticated than the rest of the Rock Tribe.

Like many Rock Trolls, he believes on terms of epicness, though he often thinks too big. This was shown best in "Palentine's Day", when he tossed aside all his mundane Palposals for an over-the-top one. He also played up Val's Hopscotch Extreme game in "Hopscotch Extreme".

In "Journey to the Center of TrollsTopia", Val Thundershock, Demo and Blaze Powerchord were shown to be just as irresponsible and disorganized as any other Rock Troll when they neglected to tell the other Rock Trolls to stop putting broken guitars in a pit of lava. Val has passed on the responsibility of doing so herself to Demo. Demo then proceeded to pass the responsibility onto Blaze.

In the series' final episode "Troll Exchange Program", he and Minuet Sonata were tied second-best among the candidates to King Trollex's Troll exchange program. Both lost out to DJ Suki as the best candidate to be sent to Techno Reef for a year to experience Techno Troll culture while teaching them Hard Rock Troll values.

Relationships

Val Thundershock

Demo is Val's band manager as well as a fan and friend. He does whatever it takes to keep her edge sharp and make sure she is on her game.

Queen Poppy

In "Manager Poppy", after he had an accident, Poppy took his place to be Val's manager for a while. Eventually, Poppy found out that Demo has been hanging with the Classical Trolls and learned to play a Classical guitar, which she appreciated. She also helps and supports Demo in "Palentine's Day".

DJ Suki

In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Palentine's Day", Demo went to great lengths to get DJ Suki's attention so that he could ask her if she would be his Palentine on Palentine's Day when he is tasked with proposing to her for the event.

Skills & Abilities

Demo has most normal Troll abilities as well as the abilities of his Tribe.

His hair is exceptionally sharp as he likes to sharpen his points.

Psyche

Similar to Val, Demo can be one of the most intelligent Trolls of his Tribe. His general ability to understand his profession is high. Where he falls down is on a emotional level, and he lets his feelings get the best of him. In "Girls' Night", he and Val come up with a plan to get Val out of Girls' Night, only for him to forget the plan because Poppy and the other girls present appeal to his more sensitive side.

When it comes to non-managerial things and non-Rock things, he is also really let down by his lack of grasp of things and has the typical ignorance of Rock Trolls mixed in with morosoph tendencies. In "Classical Rock", he struggled to come up with excuses to keep his secret, and ended up putting Poppy on the spot about what was really going on. He drifts between moments where he is acting highly intelligent to being one of the more clueless in the room, depending on the situation and storyline plot.

For example, in "Hide & Go Hug", his overall intelligence is comparable to DJ Suki and Synth, and the three are some of the least intelligent Trolls, only being outclassed by Cooper (who found Poppy in the episode anyway, despite his own lack of intelligence). In "Troll Exchange Program", on the other hand, he writes an entire essay on why he's a good candidate to teach the Techno Trolls of Techno Reef about Hard Rock culture, proving he's more than capable of displaying an unexpected amount of intelligence. The former episode still implies that out of all the Trolls in TrollsTopia, Demo could be at least considered one of the least intelligent Trolls overall, as well as within the Rock Tribe.

Music

Though a Rock Troll, Demo was shown in "Classical Rock" to like Classical guitars. Minuet Sonata noted that his delicate melody is unexpected from a Rock Troll. He was so attached to his Classical guitar that he was unable to smash it, like what Rock Trolls generally do to their guitars. In addition to his interest in Classical guitar, he was shown to use a turntable to DJ when he tried to impress DJ Suki to get her attention to be his Palentine's day Palentine. This meant that Demo is prepared to dabble with Pop techniques, making him a Rock Troll with versatile capabilities other Rock Trolls lack. Demo mentioned playing an epic drum solo in "Hopscotch Extreme", but it turns out he had a sneezing fit and can't actually play the drums that well. In "Piney & Lord Prickles", he used Val's pinecone Piney as a drumstick holder, so he presumably does still have some drumming skills. In "Journey to the Center of TrollsTopia", he was seen with a lead guitar backing up Val Thundershock while Blaze Powerchord had drums. In "Hide & Go Hug", he was seen playing a Keytar.

Due to him being the manager of Val's band, it can be assumed that he's experienced in organization, punctuality, and maintenance of band equipment. Part of his job involves getting Val ready for a concert to the point that she's pumped enough to smash a guitar. He was fired in "Under New Management" by her temporary but rehires him at the end. Val couldn't do concerts without him and hired Laguna Tidepool, while she was fair more efficient and gave perfect concert results she lacked the motivational interactions coming off as cold compared to Demo. According to Val, Demo is the best manager, leaving Laguna as her ranked 2nd best.

Humor

In the episode "Don't Make Me Laugh!", he was chosen to represent the Rock Trolls, his technique involved dropping a banana peel and slipping on it. He was beaten by Cooper when he put a mattress under him.

Baking

Demo was among Holly Darlin's baking class in "Life of Pie", he struggled to "stir with love" an instead "stirred with general good will".

Etymology

"Demo" is short for "demonstrate". The name is most likely connected to his job as Val's manager, as a demo can refer to the song used to demonstrate the skills of a musician or a band as an example of what the full song will sound like. Demos are popular with record companies, and pretty common among bands of certain Rock subgenres.
