"Follicle Fitness" is the second segment of the 4th episode of the fifth season of Trolls: TrollsTopia, and the 71st overall episode in the series. It premiered in December 9, 2021.
Synopsis[]
When Holly Darlin' discovers she has unhealthy hair, she enlists Smidge and Synth to help her whip her hairdo back into shape!
Plot[]
At her medical center, Dr. Moonbloom asks for Val in by her full name, which she says "rocks". Holly comments that it was a good idea to have everyone do a fitness test in TrollsTopia, to which Poppy comments that she is concerned for everyone's health. The test turns out to be an examination on Trolls' hair and Val is given the bill of good health, as is Guy Diamond and for Branch she has a bit of fun with her making him dance the cancan.
Moonbloom calls in Holly, who is convinced that she will get a great result because of her big beautiful hair. However, Moonbloom says Holly's hair is in terrible condition because the volume and hold require a lot of hairspray, which leads to poor hair health. Holly tries to deny it, but soon cans of spray full out of her hair. Holly explains that as a young Troll, her mother would treat her to H. T. Hairnum's hair products, which led to her using them excessively. Gust explains who that is when Moonbloom asks and says that rubbing in his pomade makes your hair feel like it has been given a big hug. Moonbloom recommends Holly to give up hairspray for 6 weeks, but Holly tries to reassure her hair Moonbloom didn't mean it - she did. After 6 weeks, she will retake the fitness test.
Moonbloom prescribes Holly to a membership at the Hairnasium, a fitness center for hair health where Smidge and Synth will be her trainers. The duo are keen to get Holly started, and shout that they will give 224%. They show off what is on offer, showing that Minuet's hair could barely lift an ice cream sprinkle before, but it can lift weights now. Holly notes that it looks fun.
She soon finds out that it is not fun at all. She fails when trying a treadmill and Creek's hair yoga, the latter because she can't control a basic tree pose. A montage shows Holly failing at everything she tries to do to strengthen her hair.
3 weeks later, Holly has made no progress. She is fed up with the Hairnasium but Poppy says that she will see results sooner or later. Every follicle hurts and there is no way she will pass the re-test. As she is having a lack of faith, H. T. Hairnum shows up (having been invited by Gust) in TrollsTopia, and he starts to hand out hair products. Holly is excited and wants some; she instantly gives up her hair, but Poppy, Smidge and Synth try to stop her. Holly grabs some hairspray and rushes off, with the trio in tail.
They drive her to the edge of a cliff and the trio try to reason with her as she threatens to spray her hair. She tells them it's all been for nothing and she doesn't have what it takes. Poppy, Smidge and Synth point out to her that in the process of running off, Holly demonstrated all the progress she didn't know she has made and she couldn't do any of that 3 weeks ago. Holly realizes she is getting results and tosses the hairspray can away, believing that she can get results, so she heads back to the Hairnasium.
At the 6-week fitness test, Holly passes at last. She thanks her friends and notes she will use hairspray in moderation from now on. Moonbloom now has to see Gust, who is suffering after using too much pomade.

Trivia[]
- Holly's hair issue is actually based on a real situation that can impact hair on humans.
- While hair does need washing from time to time to keep it clean and remove dirt from it, it doesn't need it as often as modern trends indicate.
- As a consequence, a lot of people have weak and damaged hair just from daily washing, drying, and beauty products. A lot of people with what they think is good hair turn out to have poor health against someone who barely washes their hair.
- Excessive washing removes natural oils that protect hair, and in the process of daily washing they're not given a chance to build up again and not all beauty products are good alternatives to natural oils.
- The episode is a note to workouts and physical health in general; it does take weeks to get results of physical training, and often a person's left aching in the process, as muscles that haven't seen that much use get pushed to limits that aren't part of their normal routines.
- H. T. Hairnum is a bit of a misplacement; prior to Trolls World Tour, the Tribes had broken contact with each other, aside from odd "hinterland" Trolls wondering around, they did not meet any other type of Troll.
- A continuation of this storyline is Minuet asking Synth and Smidge to help her in "The Trolls-a-Thon".
