When Holly Darlin' writes and directs a musical that showcases the life of her role model, she has an epiphany that Val would be the perfect Troll for the lead role. Plot

Hair-aldine (who is played currently by Synth) is confronted by her father (currently played by Gust), who demands to know what she did to her sister's (played by Poppy) hair. He states to Hair-aldine that her hair is holding in place and it ain't natural. She explains that her new invention will change the world. However, Synth struggles with his lines and he stops the show. Holly, who is directing the musical halts auditions.

He apologizes to Holly for his bad acting, but Holly is just glad Synth offered to help out with the musical while she continues auditions. Holly conveys her concerns to Poppy and is distraught that she can't find someone to play the role of Hair-aldine. Whoever plays her has to have certain traits, but as she talks, they hear attention being drawn nearby and investigate. They find Val Thundershock putting squeezable cheese on ice cream. The Trolls watching her note her independent spirit and fire in her eyes; both traits were the ones noted for the role of Hair-aldine by Holly, and she realizes Val is the Troll she has been looking for to play the role of Hair-aldine.

However, Holly is laughed at when she asks Val to play the role. Val states she would never be caught singing and dancing on stage to a bunch of Trolls. It's pointed out that she does that on stage all the time, but Val states her rock concerts are edgy and awesome, and musical theater is not. Holly begs Val as without her she has to go with Synth. He is currently writing on himself and confirms that Holly definitely doesn't want that. Val claims that it is just not her thing and leaves.

Poppy tries to reason with Val, and when that fails tries to bribe her with a ticket to skip the line the Big Squeeze, Val's favorite ride as she can see the whole of TrollsTopia from the top. Holly is thrilled that Val is back in the play, to which Val asks her to tell her what she wants, and Holly goes straight to the wardrobe.

In the Hair-aldine outfit, Val is not happy with how she looks. When Holly, Satin and Chenille suggest they can modify it to make it more comfortable for Val, she rips off the long dress and sleeves, destroying hours of work from the Fashion twins. Back in the full-dress she's in makeup now. Holly explains that to aid the performance they get used to heavy makeup, Val notes Hard Rock Trolls do the same and makes herself up in Rock-style makeup. In the opening scene of the play they introduce Hair-aldine. Holly tells Val to make her entrance powerful, to which Val does a Hard Rock entrance, but destroys the stage in the process. Holly decides that Val just isn't capable of doing musicals, so she lets Val off the hook. She takes Synth aside to squeeze Act 3's lines on his left flipper, and Val rushes off.

Poppy hands over the ticket, noting that it felt like Val's heart wasn't in this and that when trying to help a friend you need to put your heart into it, but before Poppy can finish she runs off with the ticket.

At the Big Squeeze, she shows her pass and is let through. While at the top, Val looks at Classical Crest and Techno Lagoon, before spotting Holly down about her play.

At the opening of her play, Holly gets ready. She asks Synth if he's ready and despite his laughter Synth states he's very much terrified. The play begins, but at the entrance of Hair-aldine there's a pause as she doesn't come out. Holly is terrified as it appears Synth forgot his entrance, but Val as Hair-aldine appears. The play proceeds as normal without hiccups.

When the play is over, Val states they did it and Holly thanks her for coming through in the end. She goes back for the show-stopping finale song and the episode ends with everyone cheering.

Trivia
[]

  • The episode is likely a nod to mid-1900s musicals, many of which were based on the cowboy-style westerns.
  • The Big Squeeze is a ride first seen in the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Hug Fest". It has returned in Trolls: TrollsTopia since "Rhythm & the Blues", but this episode is the first time it's named. It even made a cameo appearance in a flashback in "My Dinner with Dante".
    • When Val is looking at TrollsTopia from the Big Squeeze, with in mind that it's located around Pop Village, all locations are in a similar place as seen in "Cakes on a Train". However, they appear to be a lot closer together than normally portrayed in the series.
  • The train Hair-aldine is seen getting off is the Metroll train; the "big city" mentioned in the story is likely TrollsTopia, so it's suggested that at some point she has visited TrollsTopia before.
  • The "big city" is a reference to trope that was popular among many backwater town and village-based stories. Many young workers would leave the countryside to venture to big cities like New York City to look for fame and fortune, because living in the countryside offered few opportunities, change or rewards, then return when they found no such luck.
  • Despite hairspray being shown here as a Country Troll invention, it was already used by the Pop Trolls in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!. For example, in "Haircuffed", Poppy applied hairspray on Branch and Creek to tie them together.
