The following page covers identification of real versus bootleg dolls from the Hasbro Small Figurines range.

About
[]

The issue with bootlegs mostly comes down to quality standards, the dangers bootlegs pose, money being lost and sources of a counterfeit producer.

Even the worst official dolls are made with a certain level of standard that prevent toys dangerously breaking as a child plays, though this does not mean every toy is safe, but counterfiet toys often are far more dangerous when they break and prone to breaking. Chemicals in fakes can be dangerous due to lead based chemicals (which are toxic to children). Money made from sales of official merchandise helps encourage more of that certain toyline and money made by counterfiet makers often goes into the hands of criminals.

For example articles on counterfeit toys see; here and here.

Fake toys mostly have no collectors value compared to the official merchandise and therefore are an issue with toy collectors.

Missing/Incorrect Details
[]

[]

An indication of an incorrect detail is that the "Warning: Choking Harzard" text is often missing in the bootlegs. Though exceptions are noted, most real models do have the warning on the front and back.

The first wave of dolls for Trolls have the original Trolls Logo on them, not the final version used on other merchandise for the movie. Post-2016 Trolls-era dolls shouldn't have this logo, as it was changed to the orange fuzzy logo; from 2017 onwards until 2020 (when Trolls World Tour was released), most toy packaging had the patchwork Trolls logo.

Packaging Errors[]

The plastic cover of the official "hook" versions also doesn't overlap on the hook. In fake versions, the plastic overlaps and during the cutting process is cut along with the package's shape. Colors are off on the packaging and lack details.

Bootlegs showing various incorrect details

The bootlegs generally include versions of Trolls that were never released as singles, are off-color or have other issues. The most notable give away for fakes is that Fuzzbert's hair never reaches his ankles; in the real models, only his feet can be seen.

Bootleg dolls can also have some wrong printing details on them.

Trolls Stamp[]

On official dolls sold between 2016 - 2019 , there's a small imprint or stamp on their left heel. Bootlegs commonly miss this out. There exceptions.

  • This logo isn't present on Trolls World Tour dolls, except for moulds such as Biggie's, as Hasbro reused his Trolls-era mould for this era. Thus, he's the only Trolls World Tour doll so far to have the Trolls-era emboldened logo.
  • The "Troll baby" 'Fuzzy' series dolls Satin and Chenille have two baby Trolls included in their releases. These dolls also have the embolden logo, but it's located on the back of their heads.
  • Note that while the embolden logo is always in the same spot, the "stamp" version of the logo is commonly misplaced, appearing higher on the leg than it should be. It can be misprinted too, with part of it missing even in official stamped versions.
  • The only non-"fuzzy" doll with a stamp is the Trolls-era "basic" Guy Diamond, although later models have the imprinted logo on them.

Production Code[]

On every doll is their factory production number. On most dolls, this is stamped in black. Trolls World Tour-era dolls have this code as well, but the color is tan or golden for most of their designs. The code is made up of string of letters or numbers. Some models has two strings of code with 5 numbers or letters in both lines, single line Trolls era have 5 letters or numbers, while Trolls World Tour have either 5 or 6.

  • On "Fuzzy" dolls, this is embedded on the model.
  • The only doll mould Trolls to not have the code on their right sole of the foot is Fuzzbert.
  • Techno Trolls are an exception to the Trolls World Tour color; the basic "mermaid" doll and King Trollex have their codes as part of their moulds' sculpture, while the Techno Troll baby has his code printed on his body in white.
  • The aforementioned baby Trolls from the "Troll baby" 'Fuzzy' series dolls Satin and Chenille are the only dolls with no code printed on them.
  • Dolls from the same "set" should have the same code as each other within each package. For example, if a copy of Poppy's doll in her "Coronation Celebration Pack" has the production code ""B8203", then Smidge, Fuzzbert and Branch should all share that code in that particular set.
  • Trolls era Biggie may have his code on his back, Trolls World Tour places it on the foot like all other Trolls.
  • Cooper's Trolls dolls have their code on the back right foot. Trolls World Tour dolls have it on the back left.
  • Delta Dawn has her code on her left front foot.
  • The Trolls-era Baby Poppy doll has her code on her back.

Copyright Information[]

Found on the back of most doll's head. Normally, this would have been on the back of their head, and includes the country where the doll was made in, the year it was registered for sale (not the year it was first sold in), and finally the company's name "Hasbro".

  • Fuzzbert lacks a head, so this detail is on his left foot.
  • Cooper's information is on his underbelly in his Trolls models, and on the side of his back left leg in his Trolls World Tour models.

Peg Hole[]

A small hole that's present on almost all dolls and allows them to use stages. The holes' origins are unlikely related to this, as it is very common on toys made by Hasbro (such as certain My Little Pony dolls), but has become part of many toyline designs. It is usually on the left foot. When looking at the hole, there should be a hexagon shape inside it, which is the "grip" area used to grip stage knobs and grasp them for the doll to stand still on it. The size varies per doll, and thus not all can use stages. Trolls World Tour-era dolls often have the hexagon come right to the surface of the doll's foot, whereas Trolls-era dolls have a sunken area before the hexagon shape.

  • Cooper has the hole on his back right foot in Trolls models, and his front left in Trolls World Tour models.
  • Delta Dawn's is on her back left.
  • Biggie and the Trolls-era doll "Baby Poppy" have their holes in their rear ends due to both being sitting dolls.
  • Trolls World Tour Techno Trolls have their holes in the center, between their feet.
