Trolls Trollpedia

Released from January 2021 onwards and made for Trolls: TrollsTopia, this series of figurines is the sixth one in the Hasbro Small Figurines range. It is part of the Trolls World Tour era.

The series introduced Trolls with rubber-based hair to the range, taking place of those of cotton, plastic, wool or "fuzzy" ("flocked") hair. The majority of the dolls in this series have rubber hair as a result. In an attempt to copy the Trolls more accurately (something attempted by Hasbro with the "fuzzy" range) many of the Trolls with Rubber hair also have slots in their hair. This allows them to store small items such as critters and accessories in their hair like the Trolls do in the series. This is the main feature of the series despite the release also of cotton hair and plastic hair dolls.

This was the final series in the Hasbro "Small" lineup, as licensing of toys switched to Mattel in 2022.[1]

New Figurines[]

  • Val is a new design which is currently used for all 3 of her releases. The two versions of Val from the "Hidden Surprise" pack have different hair.
    • The standalone version is mostly plastic hair, but the pigtails are made of rubber for hiding/holding critters and accessories in.
    • The "Harmony Friends" version is similair but has cotton pigtails instead of rubber ones; in terms of detailing, this version is also the most noted, as the other two models are missing paint details.
  • Holly is a new design.
    • Holly's model is made of plastic and her hair is typically made of rubber for hiding/holding critters and accessories in.
  • Rhythm is a new mould. It has rubber hair.
  • Blues is a new mould. It has rubber hair.

Re-releases[]

  • Poppy reuses her "basic" Trolls World Tour body mould.
    • The "Hair Surprise" release has rubber hair with a slot in it that hides critters for hiding/holding critters and accessories in. The "Harmony Friends Pack" has normal cotton hair.
  • Branch reuses his "basic" Trolls World Tour body mould but instead of cotton hair he has rubber hair with a slot in for hiding/holding critters in.
  • Tiny Diamond reuses his "basic" Trolls World Tour body mould, but instead of cotton hair he has solid plastic hair.

Trolls World Tour vs. Trolls: TrollsTopia[]

The newer models for this series have bigger heads and are also better sculptured overall, with improvements to facial features and body proportions. The newer models mimic the TV series design, so design choices from the TV show; as a result like the show Rock Trolls also lack the pointy ears they have in the movies, despite the movies noting that is a racial trait of the Rock Troll Tribe. However, Branch still has pointy ears despite the show depicting them as rounded.

Packaging
[]

The packing for this series is white with various shapes of different colors on it. The sole exceptions are some re-releases that still bear the Trolls World Tour packaging, as they were released durin the change-over period when focus went from Trolls World Tour to Trolls: Trollstopia.

Mini-figurines[]

These figurines are a continuation of the Trolls World Tour "solid hair" figurines, and are intended to be cheap, lacking asscessories and paint details that more expensive figurines would have.

These figurines were part of the Wave 2 of the mini-figurines set. There are 4 figurines in the set, with Val Thundershock and Tiny Diamond being part of the Trolls: TrollsTopia promotion. The other two figurines are Queen Barb and Queen Poppy, both of which still have the Trolls World Tour package.[2]

This is the second time Hasbro has broken Troll sets among different promotions within the same era. Previously, in the Trolls era Hasbro had done the same to the "Troll Town Series" with Waves 1-3 being released with the Trolls movie line, Series 4 and 5 were the "Hair with Flair" series and series 6 and 7 were in the "With Critter" series.

Hair Surprise[]

This series was sold as the "basic" dolls of Hasbro's main Trolls: TrollsTopia focus of the doll line. The dolls had plastic hairstyles covering their head instead of cotton hair, with critters inside that are revealed by squeezing the hair. Two critters are at least found in each doll's hair.

Dolls of Poppy, Branch, Val Thundershock and Holly Darlin' were sold for Wave 1 of the series.[3]

  • Holly's model comes with a Puffalo and a Swampkin.
  • Val comes with a spider and Debbie (wearing a bow)
  • Branch comes with a Snug-a-lug and a caterpillar (this is inside the Snug-a-lug, and may be difficult to get out)
  • Poppy comes with a Snuggle pup and a bunny (the bunny is inside the snuggle pup and may be difficult to get out)

The hair of the Trolls is an attempt by Hasbro to mimic how Trolls store items in their hair. The Fuzzy lineup was Hasbro's previous attempt to mimic the Trolls' hair. Both the Cuddle Pup and Snug-a-lug also have room for storage of items and are highly detailed, while all other critters are stuff accessory-style critters as seen so far in the series, with the snuggle pup being the first time this toy was releases as a non-accessory style model. Val has the smallest hair-storage area of the 4 dolls and can fit only small items in her hair while Holly and Poppy have quite a bit of room for item storage.

Up to date, the series' release wasn't widely available, being limited to Canada and the United State.

Harmony Friends Pack[]

A collection containing Poppy, Val, Holly Darlin', Rhythm & Blues.

Holly's hair has hidden Critters, as this set is part of the "Surprise Hair" series. The critters are of a Swampkin and a Puffalo, the Puffalo has a slit in it and the Swampkin can be found inside the Puffalo. This version of her is identical in every way to the previous "Surprise Hair" version of her, so there is no need to purchase her separately if you own this version.

The set acts as a boaster set to buff out a collection due to the number of dolls it contains. This pack was released into many territories including Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America making it the most widespread of the Trolls: TrollsTopia merchandise.

Reception
[]

Overall, the quality of the Trolls: TrollsTopia figurines has improved a lot from the Trolls World Tour era with less issues. Detailing is much better in general, with Trolls like Val, Rhythm and Blues being particular examples of such.

The first notable issue is with the dolls "Rhythm" and "Blues". The legs the girls may have require re-bending a little to get them to stand up. Blues is more prone to this problem than Rhythm due to one leg typically being slightly longer than the other. This was the first notable fault in any of the figurines of the series.

Also, while damage to hair is still present the Trolls World Tour releases, it's much less of an issue than in Trolls World Tour.
