Hasbro's involvement with Troll Dolls predates DreamWorks Trolls, as they produced the The Original Battle Trolls toyline in 1992. However, they never had any of the Dam Things licensing, so these dolls were considered knock-offs produced during the licensing issues on "Trolls" that Dam Things had in the 1990s.

In 1995, the first licensing of Trolls Dolls for Trolls took place, with the first waves being released in 1996 alongside the movi. This allowed Hasbro to produce the first official Troll Dolls since the failed Trollz brand that had been sold between 2005 and 2006, Hasbro had been the official Troll Doll producer for "Trollz" making DreamWorks Trolls the second time they held an official Troll Doll license.

Hasbro's method of releasing dolls is by focused series, for some of their ranges such as the small figurines, it is clear to see when these promotional lines begin and end. For others like the miniatures it isn't. Hasbro has also been known to feature dolls in their Toy Fair promotions, only to cut the lines short before they fully release all their dolls. A number of unreleased dolls are known as a result across the various toylines for Trolls.

In 2022, the licensing switched to Mattel and Hasbro lost the ability to produce toys for the upcoming Trolls Band Together movie and Hasbro henceforth will no longer be producing toys under the "Trolls" brand.

Major Promotions

Note: The series' names are descriptive, not official unless stated. Also note that the design of the series likely were not fully of Hasbro's choosing as they were often used for all Trolls promotions, regardless of company.

Trolls (2016-2019)

This era is generally broken up between distinct series. Hasbro tended to market Poppy, Branch, Guy Diamond and Harper excessively during this era.

• Orange hair (2016-2017): Mostly centered around the Trolls movie release, it includes a number of miniature "blind bags", the small line and medium dolls. There are also a few feature dolls and the "Fuzzy" dolls, which were a mini-series that Hasbro ran in 2017.
• Trolls Holiday (2017): Based on the special. Hasbro only focused on the miniature "blind bag" series for it and one additional play set for the Miniature range. The series can be picked out by its glittery backgrounds mostly focused on blue and purple.
• Blue-box (2017-2019): This series started after the short-lived Trolls Holiday promotions. It's noted for the blue borders on toylines. The Trolls logo has a patchwork design.
• Netflix (2019): These reuse the patchwork logo but have a glittery rainbow background. This promotional run was cut short due to the ending of Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and Hasbro's focus shifting to the upcoming Trolls World Tour movie.
• 60th anniversary (2019): A promotion unrelated to the movies that was released to celebrate the Troll Dolls' 60th anniversary. Hasbro and Funko were the only companies that ran this promotion as a major event.

Trolls World Tour (2020-2022)

In late 2019, Hasbro begun to show off its first promotions for Trolls World Tour. This was the first major update to many lines, and saw a large influx of toys. The success of these promotions was met with some problems, as Universal switched Trolls World Tour from a theatrical release to a VOD one, forcing companies including Hasbro to change their approach to how they release and market promotional toys.

A number of new toylines were introduced, but retirements of other ones came as well.

The most commonly promoted Trolls in this era are Poppy, Branch, Barb and Tiny Diamond.

Since January 2021, the current focus of Hasbro is on Trolls: TrollsTopia, this is the second line up in the Trolls World Tour era and features a packaging which is white with various coloured shapes on.
