John Dory is a Pop Troll in Trolls Band Together. He is the leader, eldest of his 4 brothers, and a member of BroZone.
Appearance[]
John Dory as a younger teenager had the same hairstyle as his brothers, and similar to them, but was deep green at the bottom and lighter on the top. He also had orange skiing goggles with purple lenses.
As an adult, his hair has been shaved in the back and sides. He wears a brown leather vest with a white and dark-brown spotted fur collar, green pants that go down to his knees and signature green skiing goggles with a pink lenses. He also wears a brown glove on his left hand with hidden knuckle spikes.
He is apparently the second shortest brother after Floyd, and also the largest built out of the five brothers.

Personality[]
As the eldest of five brothers, John Dory was the leader of BroZone, which brought him great pride. But this created a large ego to match his status as BroZone's leader. He is described as a bigger than life character and a "bossy big brother", as being the leader of the group meant he had to look after his brothers.[3] Yet despite this, the pressure of being both the older brother and the band leader led him to make constant bad decisions.
Constantly trying to make BroZone better, he set standards for them to be perfect they could never meet as a way to deal with that difficulty, and made promises to his fans he could not keep. He also obessed on the one thing that he never could get him and his brothers to achieve as BroZone achieving the perfect family harmony, but he would force them to live up to their "roles" in the band in such way that he would ignore their own personal growth each brother was making. Towards the end of his career, everything would coming crashing down as he made decisions without thinking or consulting his brothers. He also blamed them rather then himself for their groups failures. When they broke up, John Dory was the first to leave.
He became a hermit in an attempt to break his rumination with achieving perfection and to break the psyche that had plagued him from being the leader of BroZone and to become a better older brother. While he became skilled in being a survivalist, he is a terrible planner, with a reckless approach of acting head-on. However, despite his flaws, he isn't uncaring as he truly has a big heart who does anything to help those he loves and cares about, even going extended lengths to protect them. Also, John Dory can be a jerk sometimes and has made several mistakes, but he does have well-meaning intentions and makes an effort to do the right thing. In addition, John Dory is usually honest and isn't a lair.
Despite his attempts to loose his obsession, he actually had spent years ruminating on BroZone's failures and break up, which led him in jumping to conclusions and presumptions about how things would be. Thus, he automatically tried to fall back into his roles and presumed his brothers would. This undid any progress he made in the twenty plus years away from his brothers. When he was called out on his old behaviors by three of his brothers, he tried to justify his actions and revealed he was still obsessed with control and perfection. John Dory had expected respect throughout Trolls Band Together but had been reluctant to give it. Despite this, John Dory did have some control over himself as he could't bring himself to push those who have treated him with kindness, such as Poppy and Rhonda, who have been nothing but nice to him. Also, John Dory does show his caring side towards his brothers, as he loves them more than anything, and friends.
John Dory is a version of Branch he could have been if he didn't have Poppy in his life, as he lived his life isolated with no contact, except for Rhonda. Due to spending twenty plus years alone, John Dory became a custom to it and not only preferred it but also would rather not deal with his issues. This loner attitude made him want to save Floyd as quickly as possible so he can go back to being alone with just Rhonda, which would have pushed both his brothers and first real friend that is a Troll like him away. However, it was John Dory's friendship with Poppy and hearing the life Branch had growing up is what mostly led to his change of heart and inspired him to stop running away from his problems.
Throughout the adventure to save Floyd, John Dory slowly learns to appreciate his brothers for who they are not who he wanted them to be and accepted that they have not only grown up but have changed. Also, he becomes less arrogant, controlling and pushy and more adventurous, fun and optimistic. In addition, John Dory lets go of his obsessions for good as he now seen the error of his ways and actions that came with it. By the end of the movie, John Dory has finally embraced the interests of his brothers and is now a changed Troll.

John Dory's relationship with his grandmother is unknown but he did care about her as she took him and his brothers in. Hearing what happened to her through Branch, John Dory was in shock and was devastated to hear his grandmother's fate.
Brothers/BroZone[]

John Dory was the leader of BroZone, a task that he took extremely seriously and held his brothers to a standard they could barely live up to. John Dory was their main care taker, as the only other family member they had was Grandma Rosiepuff. Taking care of four brothers on top of running the band with them in it got to him and he drove his brothers to their limits until Clay and Spruce had enough, thus spoke out and the band broke up.
When the brothers split from BroZone, John Dory realized that Clay and Spruce were right and that he needed to stop being so obsessed. This led him to a life of a hermit and he stayed away from others for twenty plus years in the hope to break his bad habits. Despite what happen between his siblings, John Dory adores his brothers and wanted them reunited. Also, due to still caring about his brothers, John Dory thought about making things right with his siblings, but was too ashamed with himself to do so. According to him, he even attempted to return but found no one there. John Dory is even protective of his brothers and various moments shows pride in them.
But despite his efforts to break old habits, he soon fell back into them as the brothers reunited. This caused Clay and Spruce to once again jump on him, and John Dory angrily snapped back out of anger and hurt. However, John Dory, Spruce and Clay were calmed down by Branch. Despite this, John Dory has come to believe that he wasn't wanted as he decides to just quickly rescue Floyd then leave his brothers so they won't have to see him again, which two of his siblings were fine with. Although, after Branch calls him and their brothers out for their behavior, John Dory, Spruce and Clay realize that they're making a mistake in leaving each other again, especially when they realize that they exposed Branch and Floyd to danger. Despite this, the three don't take the opportunity to reconcile their feelings, as they agreed that saving Floyd and apologizing to Branch was more important. However, their attempt to wait on working things out with each other would come back to bite them as they were still arguing, which caused them to get captured by Velvet and Veneer.
Towards the end of the movie, they are on much better terms and intend to rebuild their relationship as a family.
Spruce[]

Spruce is John Dory's first younger brother and had issues with each other. Also, John Dory is hurt that Spruce accuses him of not caring about him and their younger brothers. However, despite this, John Dory not only cares about Spruce but also trusts him as he took his lead in using their diamond prisons to trip Velvet so their youngest brother and their friends can save Clay and Floyd. John Dory even went to protect Spruce so he would't get pink eye like his family did by grabbing his hand and getting him away from them. In addition, John Dory is quick to accept Spruce's wife and kids as he is happy for him. During their adventure to rescue Floyd, John Dory and Spruce reforged their bond and fully makeup after nearly losing their brother.

Clay is John Dory's second younger brother and also had issues with each other. John Dory is also hurt when Clay accuses him of being bossy and not caring about their family. However, despite their issues, John Dory does care about Clay as he is proud of him, especially when he witness him choosing Floyd's safety over staying at where he lived and using tax invasion as payback to Velvet and Veneer for everything they put them and their brothers through. Also, John Dory is impressed of how much Clay has grown up and mature. They makeup after nearly losing Floyd and intend to rebuild their relationship.

Floyd is John Dory's third younger brother and is on much better terms with him, due to not sharing the same opinion as their other siblings do. Sometimes, John Dory does listen to Floyd as he is the voice of reason and does open up to him at times. Upon finding out about his capture to Velvet and Veneer, John Dory immediately goes to check on Floyd to see if he is really in trouble, which turns out to be true. He even tried to save Floyd but failed. Despite this, John Dory does promise Floyd that he'll be back to save him with their brothers. However, John Dory realizes that his actions exposed Floyd to danger and comes to blame himself for his capture. John Dory does keep his promise to Floyd but he and two of their brothers end up getting caught as well. Seeing Floyd risk his life to save him and their brothers, John Dory was not only surprise but horrified when he nearly died. However, he is relived that Floyd is alive as he and their siblings unknowingly shared their life essences with him. Although, their love for Floyd also had a hand in that as well. Also, John Dory intends to make it up to Floyd for leaving him and everything he put him through.

Branch is John Dory's youngest brother and got along with him when they were younger. Upon seeing Branch all grown up, John Dory gets excited and commented on how big he gotten. However, John Dory treats Branch like he is still a baby as he tried to pick him and embarrassed him in front of his girlfriend and friends. Also, John Dory ends up hurting Branch's feelings when he wanted all of them to be a family again as he snapped at him for his behavior and treating him like a baby. Despite this, John Dory is protective of Branch and tried to defend him when he thought someone was going to hurt him. John Dory even backed Branch up when he breaks up his argument with Spruce and Clay. In addition, upon realizing his mistake and his youngest brother truly cared about him, John Dory tries to make things right by catching up with Branch and apologizes to him, after realizing that he and their friends went to rescue Floyd by themselves. Hearing his words of wisdom, John Dory comes to terms that Branch has grown up and mature. John Dory even expressed how proud he was of Branch for writing a song for the band and intends to make things right with him by improving their relationship.

Rhonda is John's trusty armadillo bus. He always drives her around, and he takes good care of her. Rhonda in turn is fiercely loyal to him and vice versa.
Queen Poppy[]

Although a bit offended when she unintentionally calls him old and doesn't have a strong impression on him, John Dory and Poppy hit off quickly as good friends, as she became the first friend he has made, except for Rhonda. John Dory even became excited that Poppy was accompanying him and Branch in saving Floyd as he wanted to get know his brother's girlfriend. Also, John admires Poppy's optimism as he gave her a photo of Branch as a baby with a perm and tells Branch she was a keeper. John even spent most of his time bonding with Poppy and wordlessly defended her when she tried to tell her sister Viva that the Bergen's weren't their enemies anymore. In addition, John was influenced by Poppy as she brought out parts of himself that he had either forgotten he had or never knew he had.
However, while happy that she is being accepted as Branch's romantic partner by John, Poppy disapproves of how John treats Branch like a baby. Regardless, John took Poppy's words of not asking Branch about his feelings into consideration and realized that she was right, as he and his two brothers felt guilty for hurting their youngest brother and decided to make things right with him. After the mission of rescuing Floyd, fortunately, John and Poppy are still on very good terms.

Upon learning that Velvet has abducted Floyd, John has developed an instant hatred for her, even more so after she also apprehends him, Bruce and Clay. He is therefore glad that she gets publicly humiliated and arrested for everything she put him and his brothers through.

Music[]
John Dory was a member of BroZone and the groups leader, once the most popular of the Pop Trolls boy-band. Poppy was familiar with them as their music was played long after their split. John Dory was also the song writer and wrote all the songs for the band.
However, the "BroZone" vinyl album shown in Trolls Band Together suggests towards the end John Dory was getting lazy as the Side B of the album has songs titled "Baby Baby Girl", "Girl Baby Baby" and "Baby Baby Baby Girl Woman". The similar names hint John Dory was running out of creative ideas, something that possibly came from the immense pressure he was feeling at the time from being the band leader.
He also was behind the bands choreographer and organized their dance moves to perfection. He lead their dance moves, while they followed his cues.
John Dory was determined to achieve perfect family Harmony, a feat never been done before but said could shatter diamonds and move of his actions regarding music and dancing were dedicated to achieving that end goal. A goal, which ultimately John Dory himself never successfully pulled off.
Survival Skills[]
Very much like Branch, John Dory had learned a very wide set of survival skills that allowed him to live as a hermit in total social isolation for two decades. This is seen how he was able to infiltrate Velvet and Veneer's dressing room to rescue Floyd and then evade it with great ease, something that Branch was only able to do with Poppy's help.

John Dory has been driving his house bus, the Armadillo named Rhonda, for many years and perform daring maneuvers with it.
Leadership[]
He was the leader and businessperson at the peak of BroZone. Even if he had started as a reasonably good leader (as he led BroZone to become the most successful boy band ever known), the fact that he couldn't separate his role as older brother from his role as band leader caused him to make bad decisions and disregard his younger brothers, which was the main reason for the band's breakup. Also, similar to Poppy until she realized her mistakes, he only listened to himself and ignored the advice of others, even his own brothers.
During the adventure to save Floyd, John Dory realized that he should have listen to those around him, especially his brothers, after witnessing Viva not listing to Poppy about the Bergens. Also, John Dory discovered what it truly means to be a leader as Branch and Poppy taught him that good leaders listen. Eventually, he decides to let go of being leader as Poppy and Branch's advice helped him realize that he doesn't have to be the oldest sibling to be in charge of a band.
Psyche[]
John Dory is not the smartest member of BroZone. Though he was the creative mind behind much of BroZone's hit songs, he was very bad at grasping situations that lead to the bands split. And towards the end, he seemed to be exhausting his creativity.
In addition to his bad leadership, and signs of his creativity being pushed, he displayed signs of not being intellectual in Trolls Band Together. He fell for Velvet's fake letter from Floyd, and thought he could easily get the band back together and was shocked when Spruce and Clay ignored him to make a fuss of Branch. The most notable moment was when he parked in a parking space labelled "BroZone" at Mount Rageous, leading to the capture of Clay, Spruce, Rhonda and himself, an act his two brothers called him out on after their capture.
He was also ignorant, having expected warm greetings from Branch, Spruce and Clay and was shocked when all three were not happy to see him. He also keeps expecting to be acknowledged for his band days, but gets annoyed when no one did.

Like many Trolls characters, his age is unknown and vague at best. Branch is now estimated to be 24+ years old based on the BroZone website entry related to Floyd, Floyd is likely more then 30+ years old as a result of their age difference by several years. John Dory is at least 3 years oldest then Floyd the second youngest who is in turn several years older then Branch, who was a baby at the time the band broke up. In comparison to the other two brothers, John Dory is at least a year older then Spruce and two years older then Clay.
While it's unknown how old any of the band members were during their time in BroZone, all four original members were likely somewhere from tween to teenagers at the time Branch was born at their youngest. As the oldest member of the group, John Dory is likely at least in his mid-late 30s by the time of the events of Trolls Band Together, and in his 30s regardless of the other brother's ages. Like many Trolls character ages, it is relatively vague how old he is.

- John Dory was first revealed via a concept art leak in October 2022, an early design for Spruce also appears in this image.[4][5] They both jointly were the second character reveals after Viva in May 2022 at the Licensing Expo 2022.[6][7][8]
- Despite being the older of his brothers, John Dory's voice actor, Eric André, is actually two years younger than Justin Timberlake, Branch's voice, and one year younger than Daveed Diggs, Spruce's voice actor.
- John Dory and Branch have many things in common despite John Dory being the oldest brother and Branch the youngest as both were left as hermits. This is noted by Branch when he says to Clay and Spruce "You’re mad at him but you guys do the exact same thing to me". Just as Spruce and Clay were unable to let go of John Dory's obsessions with family perfection, they were unable to let go of Branch being "the baby".
- He is the only one of Branch's brothers to attempt to return after the band broke up. Floyd promised but never got to (likely due to being captured), Clay wouldn't be allowed because of Viva, and Spruce made a new life on Vacay Island.
