Laguna Tidepool is a character from Trolls: TrollsTopia. She is a delegate from the Techno Troll Tribe who came to reside in TrollsTopia.
Appearance[]
- Normal
Laguna is a purple-skinned Techno Troll with dark blue hair, neon blue eyes and a teal heart, and 2 short green and blue arm patterns. She wears black round glasses and a green tie in the lower part of her hair. She also has a necklace and a bracelet on her left wrist, both made of purple-pink beads.
Laguna differs from most Techno Trolls by having a pair of eyebrows instead of an unibrow. She is also the only Techno Troll in the series with a different ear shape (more pointed and raised at the top) than the usual one. She has smaller eyes than normal as well, but when she has her glasses they appear the same size as any other Techno Troll's eyes.

Personality[]
Unlike the rest of her Tribe, Laguna is intellectual and a little nerdy, enjoying studying through observation and writing her observations down in a notepad. As noted by Cloud Guy, Laguna is unable to resist testing a hypothesis, even when she knew he wanted to give her the down-low/too-slow prank. Furthermore, she used to set too much stock into research, even in situations where there is no time to comb through every detail, because initially she didn't trust in herself to make good decisions under pressure without having research and knowledge to fall back on. She can also be very clumsy at times.
Otherwise, Laguna is a friendly and positive Troll who enjoys making new friends and learning new things.
In "The Snug-a-lug Situation", she is noted for her ability to resist hugging the most, alongside Branch, Gust Tumbleweed and Val Thundershock (even though it turns out that they all each hugged the Snug-a-lug after all). Like the other three Trolls, she can display arrogance (originating from her logic and reasoning), and thus can be overconfident.
Laguna is a bit of a worrier when it comes to social situations and has a lot of doubts in herself when it comes to anything foreign to her, being closer to that of an introvert to Synth's more extroverted nature. She notes that she is an observer; she doesn't bring "Da Noise", she observes it after "Da Noise" has been brought. This came out when she had to DJ her first rave; not only did she display a lack of understanding what it means to be a DJ, but she had no confidence at all in her abilities to perform. This was resolved with some support from Synth.
Relationships[]
Synth[]
Synth is Laguna's friend who brought her to TrollsTopia from Techno Reef. Synth is supportive of her, even though they have contrasting personalities, and has faith in her abilities even when she doesn't have them.
Branch[]
Branch first met her in Techno Lagoon when he tries to talk to Synth about the Hotsprings. She insists to petsit Lownote's pet, along with Gust, Branch, and Val. In "Cloud Control", she finds out that Cloud Guy annoys Branch, Holly, Lownote, and Dante.
Rhythm & Blues[]
Laguna gets along well with R&B due to their mutual interest in science and research.
Cloud Guy[]
In "Cloud Control", Laguna was revealed to be another Troll annoyed by Cloud Guy on a regular basis, and he celebrated his "annoyversary" with her and the other Trolls he likes to annoy. The basis for annoying her is that she can't resist testing a theory. Thus, her serious nature and inability to resist falling for basic pranks makes her an easy target to him.
Skills & Abilities[]
She has most normal Troll abilities as well as the abilities of her Tribe.
Music[]
Laguna is a Techno Troll and is therefore into Techno music. While she likes to study her work, she is unable to resist a good hook like the rest of her Tribe and is prone to dropping everything to rave. She's otherwise resistant unless this happens.
In "Daylight Ravings Time", Laguna sees raves as a chance to study Techno Troll culture and mentions she's been to 10,483 raves, but until that episode had never DJ'ed. It took her a while to guess how to do DJ'ing in a way that suits her, but Synth was supportive of her saying he chose her as that year's DJ for a reason. Laguna demonstrated her skills by remixing one of her favorite audio books: Jane Hugmere's Disservation of Troll Hair Patterns.
Due to her abilities intellectually, according to the episode "Under New Management", Laguna is rated by Demo and Val as the second best manager, with Demo being ranked the best. Laguna was shown as Val's manager initially when she temporary fired Demo. Although Laguna was a perfect manager and the concert went flawlessly, she lacked the interactions of Demo and didn't even understand what "leaving a note" meant. She currently manages Dante. As a manager she micromanages everything to perfection, from stage handling, to cue cards, and timing. Her approach ends up being cold.
Research[]
Laguna is an "antrollpologist" (a play on "antropologist"), and likes to observe the interactions of other Troll Tribes. She's into both modern and ancient Trolls, and has a interest in archeology, antiquarianism and paleography. She's extremely focused and relies on a lot of research.
Laguna also has very different interests to the rest of her Tribe, and isn't constantly raving; she is present at many raves because it allows her to study her own Tribe.
After studying about Glampires, Laguna became a Glampire Helper and helped Guy Diamond get over this urge to wear clothes in "Once Bitten, Twice Guy".
Psyche[]
Alongside her studies, Laguna is an exception among her tribe and a contrast to Synth's own absentmindness; she is smarter than the average Techno Troll by far and uses overcomplicated words that her people normally wouldn't use. While this comes with a better understanding and a curiosity about the study of Troll habits and lifestyles, it does mean that she socially lacks some understanding of things that other Techno Trolls find easy or natural to them.
Party Games[]
Laguna is hopeless at Dominos, she calls her habit of knocking over their lines and setting them off prematurely as "domin-uh-ohs". The problem was the subject of the episode "Domin-Uh-Ohs". This is a problem as Dominos are her favorite pastime, the only pastime she enjoys the most. By the end of the episode, she fixed her problem and even began to re-build after Poppy does her own "Domin-Uh-Oh".
Like Minuet Sonata, Laguna Tidepool is a Troll Chess gaming master. In "Bubbled In", the pair taught Tiny Diamond how to play Troll Chess only to proceed to lose against him constantly.
Humor[]
In "Don't Make Me Laugh!", she calls herself an expert in humor and states it all falls down to research. Laguna herself has a dry sense of humor and makes jokes that are punny-based but do not get much of a laugh as they aren't intended to be laughed at. She has demonstrations and observations on the elements of humor; to her the best jokes catch you off guard and are a surprise. But studying the opponents means that you are not surprised by a joke, thus making her the champion of her Tribe when it comes to humor-based tournaments. While not funny herself, because of her research she is hard to make laugh and she knows how to combat the humor of every other Troll, but laughs uncontrollably at very dry puns even if they are bad.
Medical Status and Issues[]
Due to her wearing glasses all the time, she likely has some form of sight-related issue. Since she has smaller eyes without her glasses on, she likely has hyperopia, meaning that she can't see anything close up, and is farsighted with plus-size lenses higher than 3 diopter.

Etymology[]
A "laguna" is a shallow pool of water in land.
A "tidepool" is a pool of water on the edge of the sea created by rock formations. As the tide goes out, these formations often trap sea water alongside various plants and creatures until the tide returns.
Trivia[]
- Synth and Laguna are opposites. While one is very intelligent and focused, the other is very absentminded and easily distracted. They're likely based on two of the most common stereotypes in storytelling: the "surfer dude" and "nerd". While Laguna has a strong intellectual outlook, Synth has a strong emotional outlook on life.
- According to an interview with her voice actress Anita Kalathara, the instructions for Laguna's portrayal were "she was Indian American, had a passion for observing cultures outside her own, and spoke from a clinical point of view". She wasn't given an Indian accent to match this.[2]
- It's likely that she was based on the "Bollywood Nerd" trope.
