Happiness isn't something you put inside, it's already in there. Sometimes you just need someone to help you find it.

A good queen listens. Real harmony takes lots of voices! DIFFERENT voices!

Queen Poppy is the current Queen of the Pop Trolls, Peppy's youngest daughter, and the female protagonist of the DreamWorks Trolls franchise. She was initially introduced as Princess Poppy in Trolls, but in merchandise, it was just referred to as Poppy, thus avoiding her title altogether. In 2D animation, it's hinted that her full name is "Poppy Help Springwater"[5], with "Help" being confirmed but "Springwater" remaining unclear.

She acts as the leader of The Snack Pack, with each of its members joining the group upon becoming friends with her.

Appearance

Normal

Poppy has a light pink skin complexion with rosy cheeks and glitter freckles. Her hair color is a darker pink, and sticks up in the air naturally. Her nose is the same color, and so are her eyes and eyebrows. Her ears curve up slightly, and like the other Trolls, she has four fingers on each hand and four toes on each of her bare feet. Her main outfit is a blue dress held together by a white stitch on the shoulder, with a light blue wavy spade design. She has a green headband with blue flowers, and she wears a purple and blue hug-time bracelet that opens up into a pink flower when it's hug time, though is not the original owner of the bracelet.

In the beginning of the film, Poppy's hair is loose, but during the 20 Year Celebration and the rest of the movie, it's put up into a straight ponytail held together by a blue hair tie.

Poppy's model has a unique head, and her hairstyle isn't shared by any other Troll. It's rounder and much less wider than the standard Troll's. Her dress and headband are also uniquely designed.

According to Trolls: The Junior Novelization, Poppy is five and a half inches tall in height from foot to hair. This is half an inch shorter than the average Troll height, which is at six inches (three of hair and three of body).

Baby
As a baby, Poppy is smaller and has shorter hair. She doesn't wear any clothing, but has a green headband with a blue flower, which is quite similar to the one she has when she gets older.

Normal
Poppy starts the TV special wearing her Trolls outfit.

Normal

In Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, Poppy's dress is mostly blue with white border patterns. Like in the beginning of Trolls, her hair is loose. Starting from the Season 5 episode "Guy Misses Out", her dress has its colors reversed, and is buttoned with a pink heart.

According to Jim Mortensen, Poppy is taller than Branch "by a hair", which was noted in the series' model sheets.[6]

Normal
Poppy had the same appearance as in Seasons 1-5 in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!.

Trailers

In trailers of Trolls World Tour, she wears the same outfit as in Trolls and the beginning Trolls Holiday for scenes like The Sound of Silence.

Normal

In the movie itself, she has a similar but updated outfit to Trolls. Her headband, while still green, had a major change with a large dark blue flower with blue petals, six smaller yellow flowers with petals of the same color (two on the front, four in the back), and four additional yellow flowers with lighter green petals.

Normal

Poppy looks mostly the same as in Seasons 1-5 of Trolls: The Beat Goes On! with a few improvements, but the headband is notably different, having tulips instead of open flowers.

Toddler

Poppy, Lownote Jones and Val Thundershock turn into toddlers during "Flyer's Ed".

Normal
TBA

Poppy wears a festive green crown and dress with pale green leg warmers.

Normal
Throughout the movie, she wears a light blue and green knitted jumper with matching leg warmers and crown.

Normal
Poppy had the same normal appearance as in Trolls Band Together.

Personality

General

In Trolls, Poppy was the happy-go-lucky future leader of Troll Village. Though Poppy was born in the Troll Tree like Branch, her earliest experiences were that of liberation and freedom: the Trolls escaping from the Troll Tree. Poppy grew up in a carefree environment, watching the rebuilding of Troll society, with almost all the Trolls around her being happy and living to enjoy life. As a result, she ended up being an extravert who viewed the world as relentlessly positive and happy, seeing fun rather than danger at many times and is adored by all of her Tribe, especially her friends The Snack Pack. Poppy is very energetic, but is normally relaxed in dangerous situations, and has an easy time going with the flow while still having things work out just like she wanted them to.

Poppy is determined and is strong in her beliefs and values. When she sets her sight on something she tends to achieve it, even if at first she fails. She doesn't doubt herself and if she does catch it happening she quickly gets her confidence back. She cares about the well-being of all Trolls, and often has big parties to keep everyone happy. Her ability to make friends even with her enemies led to her befriending Bridget because of her sympathy towards her and later Branch through their adventure. Poppy and Branch are the two Trolls least likely to panic in a dire situation and even in Trolls World Tour, the thought other Tribes of Trolls didn't know what "Hammer Time" was didn't phase either, while their friends all panicked. Both remain fairly head strong in desperate situations, though are not completely immune to panicking with Poppy being the least likely to panic in danger over Branch in many cases due to her positivity.

In Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, Poppy spends much of the series learning about leading the Trolls by helping all her friends and learning from her mistakes along the way, as well as helping Branch be "normal" again. She's also generous and takes time out for her friends' problems. She focuses on creating and bettering friendships in general.

In Trolls: TrollsTopia, she finds herself trying to find solutions to TrollsTopia's problems. She's very keen to make her project work and to help establish a permanent harmony between all Troll Tribes. In both 2D animations, she's shown to go above and beyond the call of duty to resolve a result.

In all iterations, Poppy is noted for her optimism, kindness, gregarious, loving and caring disposition to every Troll far and wide.

Flaws and Issues

Despite all things, Poppy still has a lot to learn, and in most animations it's shown that she often makes mistakes while trying to be a good leader or just attempting to do good in general. The reason for these mistakes occurring varies, but comes down to several issues.

Poppy is also exuberant and eager to be a good queen to her people, to the point that she tries too hard. Some of her actions ended up having dire consequences, from Creek betraying her in Trolls and nearly getting her entire Tribe eaten, to Bridget being mad at her in Trolls Holiday for overstepping the line. She's also keen to be a good person, and she can be too much for some characters in both 2D and 3D media alike.

Particularly in the 3D animations, Poppy's quick to jump to positive assumptions without having all of the facts and as a result Poppy is naive. But she is inexperienced in dealing with some things as a result of her constant positivity. This also gives her the assumption of always being right and in Trolls to put being happy above all things. For example, instead of escaping with the friends she managed to save, she chooses to believe against all evidence that Creek was still alive, due to her seeing only positive things and refusing to accept he had been eaten. In Trolls World Tour, it did allow her to attempt to unite the Trolls Tribes, as she believed correctly that her father was wrong about them, but came to the wrong conclusions on differences initially.

Her positivity makes her value her own judgements over the opinion of others; she's an idealist who can't see why others would not agree with her until she comprehends them. This proved to be her biggest weakness and her constant undoing leading her inability to see the world from the point of others, instead trying to make others see her point of view. In Trolls, she struggled to understand why Branch was unable to be happy or allow himself to be happy, under the advice of her friends she ignored Branch's warnings as his grumpiness was put down by her friends as Branch wanting to be unhappy without her ever finding out "why" he was or heeding his warning. In Trolls Holiday, she believes the Bergens' responses to the holiday suggestions and Branch's advice to "go home or go bigger" meant she needed to try harder and with more flair, nearly costing her friendship with Bridget. The only problem is that her beliefs prove to be an extremity at times, with her relentless dedication having consequences, and also making her oddly similar to Queen Barb.

In Trolls World Tour, all her flaws came together at once; she ignored the words and advice from her father, Branch, Biggie, and even King Quincy, Queen Essence, and Prince D. She thought Hickory was a friend and an open-minded Country Troll because a lot of what he said lined up with her own beliefs, only to find out he was really a Yodelling Troll and not a Country Troll at all, working with his brother Dickory as bounty hunters to capture her.

In Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and Trolls: TrollsTopia, her efforts to always find solutions means she has at times a narrow sighted thinking process. When things go wrong, they go really bad for her and she often has to rely on her friends to help her out. She has periods of doubts when this happens, but always pulls through. She makes some of the biggest mistakes in the series, but consequentially achieves some of the biggest successes. She can also be stubborn (e.g. as seen in "Bygone Bergen", when she refused to not befriend Barnald in the aforementioned episode) and hypocritical at times (she already knew the solution to DJ Suki leaving in "Troll Exchange Program"; even then, when faced with DJ actually leaving, she decided against it and looked for excuses to avoid losing any of her TrollsTopian friends).

Other

Poppy loves glitter, and as a result, fails to understand that not everything is better with it and not everyone likes it. There's a running gag in the 3D animations that involves her spraying glitter in the face of characters who simply don't like it while she doesn't acknowledge them about it. This included Branch twice in Trolls, King Gristle Jr. (Bergens dislike glitter) in Trolls Holiday, and Queen Barb in Trolls World Tour with a glitter bomb that was in her card for Barb.

According to DreamWorks, Poppy's alignment is "Chaotic Good", while Branch's is "Lawful Neutral".[12]

Poppy indeed acts like a Chaotic Good character. She seeks change even if it isn't necessarily the best for everyone (often meaning well but failing to think everything through), as seen in Trolls World Tour. She places freedom in high regard above all other things and she is generally out of sync with others not on her own wavelength as seen with her and Branch in Trolls and her opinons on differences in Trolls World Tour.

In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Hide & Go Hug", it's stated that Poppy is a Troll who does take charge, and does so by signing sweetly and sincerely to win over others.

Relationships

Love Interests

Branch

Dreamworks Trolls - Princess Poppy hugging Branch

Lovable pink Troll meets grumpy grey one.

The first ever established banter between the two comes from Troll 2 Troll, a series of shorts that features Branch and Poppy debating various topics. Poppy tends to see the brighter side of the debates, and thus ends up being undecided about which is better, much to the annoyance of Branch. In most cases, the interactions of the two lead to no answer actually being given on the topic.

Branch and Poppy are seen throughout Trolls as opposites. Branch generally doesn't like other Trolls and sees Poppy as a nightmare, but Poppy is still the only one to give Branch a chance and had been constantly inviting her to all her parties. While Poppy is happy and carefree, Branch is grumpy and always so serious. She finds him confusing and wondered why he didn't sing, presuming that he just couldn't sing until he later explains why. The two slowly begin to better understand each other.

Although they're opposites, they are often right about different things. For example, Poppy's belief that her friends were still alive were matched by Branch's warning that having a loud party would attract attention of the Bergens in the first place. Ultimately, when Poppy finally realizes she really didn't know what it was like to know sadness, as her actions led to all the Trolls being captured to be eaten by the Bergens, Branch was the one to cheer her up and give her back happiness.

Poppy's relationship with Branch in Trolls: The Beat Goes On! generally consists of her trying to help him being normal by putting effort into him, such as creating a "Bunker List" of things to do to help him become a better Troll. Poppy is Branch's best friend, and while Poppy herself has many "best friends", Branch is the only one who struggles just with being a Troll. Branch requires a lot more work than all her other friends to achieve the basics, and sometimes that also includes bringing him back to reality. The relationship of the pair isn't always good with Poppy generally being skeptical of everything he does as it comes with a overreaction of paranoia that can borderline crazy. She's seen relying on him in episodes such as "Eye'll Be Watching You".

In the beginning of Trolls World Tour, Branch planned to confess his feelings for Poppy, but she ends up misinterpretating them. During Poppy's quest to reunite the Tribes, they have different approaches to interacting with the other Tribes, with Poppy favoring to take risks and disagreeing on Branch's preference of playing safe. They argued a lot along the way, as per usual when these Trolls are around each other.

Branch supported Poppy throughout the film until the Funk Trolls were attacked, despite opposing her decision to keep going on. While Poppy ignored everyone, Branch became the one to listen to the issue that differences do matter. When he has finally had enough of Poppy only listening to herself, he gets upset and confronts her on this, causing them to have a row.

Poppy and Branch as a couple at the end of Trolls World Tour

They temporarily separated from each other, which upset them both. Branch still cared deeply about her despite this, and later took a hit that Barb intended for Poppy so that she wouldn't have to be a Rock Zombie. After returning back to normal, he truthfully confessed his feelings, which Poppy reciprocated. The two are now in a romantic relationship with each other. Trolls: Holiday in Harmony focused on the two as they had to buy gifts for each other and the two struggled with what to get each other. During the special, Barb once again refers to Branch as Poppy's boyfriend, this time not as a mockery like in Trolls World Tour. She was also shown to enjoy being silly and teasing him during Together Now.[13]

In Trolls: TrollsTopia, she tends to consult Branch on matters when she can't find a solution and is often keen to support him. When Branch needs her help she's also there for him. The two support each other to this extent throughout their time together. Poppy doesn't always like Branch's answers, as his tone is often smug or condescending with them conflicting with her attempts to find a solution that avoids hurting the feelings of others. She also tends to ignore any concern he has for her well-being at times as she is usually fine anyway.

It was confirmed by Tim Heitz that Poppy did have feelings for Branch in Trolls, but due to being Queen, she was too busy to give it a thought until Trolls World Tour, but currently won't say what the future holds for the pair.[14]

The pairing was affectionally dubbed "Broppy" by fans after Trolls - as of Trolls: Holiday in Harmony and Trolls Band Together respectively, the fan term is also acknowledged by DreamWorks staff members Walt Dohrn and Gina Shay.[15][16]

Creek

Poppy generally seemed to have cared most about him out of all her friends in Trolls. He often boops her nose to cheer her up. Creek is seen to be on good terms with Poppy, with her having a photo him at the center of her frameset.

She remains hopeful that he's still alive after Chef insists King Gristle Jr. to eat him, even though Branch pointed out the unlikelihood of his survival. His later betrayal comes as a shock to her, and even tries to strangle him when he confesses that he's not only selling her out, but the entire Troll Village.

Tim Heitz confirmed that they were not in a pairing and that Poppy just found Creek cute until he showed his "True Colors".[17]

In the prequel book Follow Your Art, he was shown to be very supportive of Poppy, having a very close relationship to her.

Poppy forgives Creek when he returns in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, though they remain distant from each other. Aside from dealing with his and Branch's rivalry, she has very little interaction with him.

Friends

Bridget

Poppy meeting Bridget in Trolls Holiday

Poppy meeting Bridget in Trolls Holiday

Bridget is a Bergen whom Poppy befriends to help her save Creek in Trolls. Poppy helped her due to how unhappy she is, and the two became good friends. This is also seen in Trolls Holiday, where she tries to help the Bergens, though it leads to a fight between her and Bridget. The two eventually realize their misunderstandings and forgive each other in the end.

Bridget and Poppy remain friends, and Poppy even helped Bridget on her wedding day get ready. By this point, the two are like sisters at times, signaling how dear Bridget is to Poppy by this point.

The Snack Pack

2437074

Poppy shows up with Branch to rescue the Snack Pack.

The members of the Snack Pack are among her closest and dearest friends, and she would offer anything for them. In Trolls, this meant rescuing them from the Bergens, and in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, helping them with their everyday lives and problems.

Other Pop Trolls

Poppy is adored by all other Pop Trolls, and strives to be a good leader in return. She's aware of the way Pop Trolls behave as well, and has their best interests at heart, citing that they would panic had they found out that there was an imposter in "The Imposter". Likewise, if there's something wrong with her, they'll panic as stated in "Switcher-Ruby"; Poppy simply sneezing caused her to be stuck in bed for a week because the village overreacted to the possibility of her being ill.

Queen Barb

When she first learnt about Queen Barb, Poppy was excited to meet another Troll queen. After finding out about what happened at Symphonyville and Barb's true plans, however, she abandoned the idea of befriending her and jumped to the conclusion Barb was evil. She tried to stop her, but she was caught, and Barb threw her offering to be best friends back at her as a form of mockery of her naivity.

Poppy was initially unaware that Barb saw her as a threat due to the Pop Trolls' past reputation, and Barb herself mocked Poppy as she didn't live up to expectations at all. Poppy disagreed with Barb's opinions that the two were alike, and Barb labelled Poppy the "worst of all" leaders because of her views on Pop music. Despite all things, Poppy was still willing to offer the hand of friendship to Barb by the end of Just Sing, seeing how the Queen of Rock had changed her views of the world.

BroZone

Although not knowing that Branch was part of the boyband until John Dory's return, Poppy is a huge fangirl of BroZone, being extremely exhilarated at the prospect of meeting each of them. Although hitting off with them without much of a hitch herself, she found herself disapproving of how John Dory, Spruce and Clay weren't acknowledging how Branch is already a fledged adult, although afterwards she is still on very good terms with the three of them. Floyd is by far the only BroZone older brother she has shown no disapproval of, as she respects him for regarding Branch as a grownup from the get-go.

The Tribe Ambassadors

In Trolls: TrollsTopia, Poppy meets the five new Trolls sent to her project TrollsTopia.

The easiest of these Trolls to befriend was Holly Darlin', who's similar to Poppy herself and can even outdo her in areas such as generosity. Holly and Poppy have moments in their relationship where the two aren't honest and upfront with each other and end up being afraid to hurt the other's feelings.

The hardest was Val Thundershock, who was guarded throughout Season 1. She finally gets somewhere with their relationship in "Bad Hair Day", marking a milestone between them. In the Season 2 episode "Smooth Operator", Val notes she likes her dynamic with Poppy, and tells her that she likes her "popsivity" and doesn't want her to lose it.

In "The Fabyrinth", Poppy entered the BFF Zone with Val Thundershock and Holly Darlin' and the trio are now BFFs.

Other Trolls

Pushy Poppy

Pushy Poppy was an alternate universe counterpart of Poppy whom she met during a scavenger hunt across dimensions hosted by Lownote Jones. The two had very contrasting personalities and didn't get along, causing problems for Poppy, Guy Diamond and Holly Darlin'. The two ended up in a competition to win the contest, and Poppy won out in the end while Pushy Poppy was left a sore loser.

Family

A number of ancestors were mentioned in the non-canon Trolls comics storyline "Royal Portrait". Their names are Pippi, Pappy and Loppy.

King Peppy

2436392

Peppy praising Poppy in Trolls for finding a safe shelter for the Trolls in Branch's bunker.

Their relationship is generally one of great respect; Peppy is glad to have her as a daughter and Poppy looks to him for sage advice. Poppy admires her father and wants to be a good leader to the Trolls like he was, but sometimes just lacks the experience and Peppy is known to chip in advice from time to time.

In Trolls World Tour, he has a row with Poppy over what's best for their people with the incoming threat of Barb, and Poppy has to remind him that she is Queen now. He accuses of her of not listening to him, which was warranted given that his daughter would go on without listening to anyone throughout the movie. He shows sorrow when Poppy appears to have been converted to a Rock Zombie, but then takes pride in her for stopping Barb and wastes no time to take credit for raising her, calling himself a "genius" for doing so.

Viva

TBT (962)

Poppy and Viva singing "It Takes Two".

Poppy always wanted a sister, and due to her age during The Last Trollstice, she did not remember the one that she lost. When they were united, Viva and Poppy become best friends, though Viva acts like an extreme version of herself and even Poppy questions how others perceive her. However, Viva's inability to risk the lives of those she cares about almost caused issues for both of them. Though things between them are sorted in the end and all is forgiven, thus the two are now on very good terms.

Pets

Perky

Perky

Perky, Poppy's pet Grinchilla and BPF

Perky is Poppy's pet Grinchilla and BPF, however, things did not go smoothly at first. She is introduced in "BPF". Poppy seeks out a pet after seeing the other Trolls with one, since Pop Trolls don't keep pets the idea was exciting for her. Perky is chosen by Holly and Val to be her pet. Things go well until Perky destroys a scrapbook and Poppy ends the relationship before it begins. Later, she confesses why it didn't work out and Holly and val tell her that there is no such thing as a perfect pet and that it's common for pets to destroy things, thus she cannot hold it against Perky for wrecking something. Poppy finds Perky who has taken the rejection hard, Poppy takes her back home and the two settle their differences.

Shelliot

Shelliot is a turtle that Poppy befriended as one of her many attempts to find a BPF before settling on Perky. Shelliot was kind and thoughtful towards Poppy, being sweet and generous. However, in the end, he met Branch and the two became BPFs instead.

Other Pets

Poppy tried several other unnamed pets, including a bird that talked but said hugs were overrated, another which she got extremely close to but lost due to her flying south for the winter, a Grossum.

Skills & Abilities

She has the most normal Troll abilities, as well as the abilities of her Tribe.

In Trolls, she was listed as a "Rainbow Troll". Her "True Colors" as a Rainbow Troll were only shown in Styling Hair doll known as "True Colors Styling Poppy Head" although it is not considered canon. She later shows similar coloration in Trolls World Tour but this was not referred to as her True Colors. Both designs reference her as having hidden colors as yellow, purple and light blue.

In the Ask Poppy short "How to Dance Trolls Style", Poppy was shown to be sense an unhappy Troll in the village and is drawn to them so she can figure out how to cheer them up.

In "Darlin' Dos", Holly Darlin' noted that Poppy has some of the best kept hair she had ever come across.

In "Clash of the Battle Piñatas", she was shown to have the ability to lower her voice to a deeper vocal range and mimic an "announcer voice" via a microphone.

Leadership

Poppy is the leader of the Pop Trolls, a skill she's still learning from. Her main duty as leader is to keep every Troll happy and calm, protect them from danger and help if they do get in trouble.

Her leadership skills are mostly built on optimism, trying to please everyone and hard work (which she views as fun and easy). So when she fails, it's usually because she tried too hard, was trying to leave no Troll unhappy or simply didn't see any disaster coming. One example of her failing as a leader is in the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Blank Day". Instead of deciding which new holiday should fill the blank date on the calendar, she chose all holidays, leading to everyone's interests interfering with each other and creating disaster because she didn't want to upset anyone. At night, she makes a speech to the Trolls who have created disaster in all holidays. Afterwards, she starts to choose a new holiday.

She had a habit of listening to only herself and not to others, resulting in bad decisions in Trolls and Trolls Holiday, and costly ones in Trolls World Tour. Since the latter film, Poppy is listening to others a lot more and taking their advice on board.

Socialization

Poppy is the leader of the Pop Trolls, and everyone in Pop Village expects to be her friend. She's required to give love and affection regularly. In the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Switcher-Ruby", it was shown that the rest of the village tends to expect this of her, and they can overreact whenever she appears to not be herself.

Her optimism means that if she wants to make friends with someone, her persistence usually results in them being friends in the end. She has managed to make friends with some of the unlikeliest people, such as village grouch Branch, the Bergen Bridget and the Party Crasher scout Archer.

Poppy is keen to make new friendships happen with others as well, and as Queen of the Pop Trolls has it as part of her job. Her main problem is she has short-sightedness at times and can severely overestimate herself. In the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Friend Matching", she has developed a system wherein she could match two Trolls based on their answers to a questionnaire and couldn't then figure out why a friendship between Guy Diamond and Sky Toronto didn't work until Sky noted he didn't fill out the form; he gave it to his assistant to fill it. The most notable example of her keenness to make friends and failing is her attempt to be "best friends" with Queen Barb in Trolls World Tour, which fails to happen as Barb notes you "don't just become best friends", and friendship takes time and years of mutual respect. In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "The Buddy System", her attempts to make the "buddies" friends results in all Trolls involved missing out on the Puppy Parade and only makes everyone angry with each other. She soon has it explained that while they couldn't live with each other, it didn't mean they didn't like each other; friendships take time.

Competitions

In Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, Poppy and Branch compete over a number of events, and both are usually determined to show up the other. For Poppy, it's mostly about remaining on top and proving she is the better Troll. Most of the time, Poppy will come out on top, and their competitions to prove who's better had become so common that the other Trolls got used to it by the events of "Peril Patch". Poppy enjoys pranking, miniature golf, capture the flag and other sports wherein she gets to show off her ability to come out on top. She enjoys winning a lot, and defeat only leads her to become more determined to succeed. In the aforementioned Peril Patch episode, Poppy actually admits Branch is the better golfer; she just enjoys messing with Branch and throwing him off his game, due to her enjoying manipulating him. Poppy generally has the edge due to having the ability reel in her friends for help, an act Branch tends to fail on as he tends to rely on himself only. Poppy enjoys wiping the smug grin off of his face once he's beaten.

She also rarely partakes in large competition events, and as a queen, she is usually seen either hosting or taking a commentator role either herself or with a partner.

Music

Poppy is a good singer, singing if she's happy or to relax. She sings with a high-pitched, perky-sounding voice. Poppy sings a lot, as this is supposed to be a basic thing Trolls do and believes all Trolls should embrace this. She tried in Trolls to get Branch to sing and when she couldn't she just presumed he wasn't a good singer. In the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Hitting The Sky Note", she likewise encouraged Sky Toronto to also sing, only with a very different result. Not all of her singing has been received well; in the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Bygone Bergen", the Bergen Barnald criticized Poppy as being "too pitchy" in addition to her song being far too dreadfully cheery for his liking.

In the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Big Poppy", she's also good in rapping, and participated in a compliment rap battle to out-compliment Master Controll.

Her favorite instrument is a cowbell. She was also seen playing a ukulele during The Sound of Silence, in some episodes of Trolls: The Beat Goes On! and in Trolls: Holiday in Harmony, which has been regarded as her main instrument of choice since then.

It was noted that in "How to Dance Trolls Style" that Poppy is typically the lead in Swing Dancing and letting Branch lead proved to be quite difficult for her. As the queen of her people, she is the one who is suppose to lead. She couldn't bring herself to agree to let another Troll lead in a dance.

As queen of the Pop Trolls, it was her sworn duty to protect her music, including the pink string of Pop, until she destroyed the strings and the Trolls reunified as a species. Poppy was temporarily attuned to Rock instead of Pop when Barb converted her into a Rock Zombie, but due to Poppy blocking out the sound of the strings via gumdrops, she never lost who she was. While she was attuned to Rock, she was shown to play an electric guitar.

In Trolls World Tour, while a Rock zombie, she was seen playing an electric guitar. In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "TrollsTopia Part 2", she does the same when she was trying to impress Val Thundershock, being able to get the power chord that Rock Trolls can be seen doing at times.

Poppy mimics an announcer voice via a microphone

In "Clash of the Battle Piñatas", it was shown that Poppy has the ability to lower her voice to a bass level with her microphone, but she doesn't normally use her announcer voice for singing.

In the Trolls Scrapbook Stories episode "Poppy's Sad Song Switcheroo", Poppy had to turn to Branch for help writing a sad song, as Poppy finds it impossible to feel sadness as Branch easily does. Poppy cannot write a sorrowful song as a result without Branch's guidance in the short.

In Trolls Band Together, its revealed she was fond of the music of BroZone growing up. She was unaware she was dating a former member of the group, Branch, since they split soon after his debut as a baby leading to his membership in the group being obscure. She is shown to be a heavy boyband follower, and excitingly joins in with a number of songs throughout the movie.

Art

In "Art Breaker", Poppy recreates works that are by Synth, though identical to Synth's original pieces, they "sing" to the viewer and Poppy continued to recreate his works, often painting over them. Eventually he found out about the scheme.

Baking

Poppy was in Holly Darlin's Pie 101 class in "Life of Pie", she managed to do the first recipe where others struggled.

Comedy

In "It's Dad-urday", Poppy was shown to tell dad jokes with King Peppy and ended up laughing at their lameness.

Paper Craft

Trolls-disneyscreencaps

Poppy is a skilled scrapbook-er

She is skilled at paper craft, able to make elaborate scrapbooks and invitations complete with pop-up effects and glitter sprays.

In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Branch Out of Water", she's seen trying to scrapbook blindfolded; she concludes afterwards that she can't do it well after all.

Vehicle Maneuver

Several times in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, Poppy was seen riding Flyer Critters. In "Eye'll Be Watching You", while riding one, she ended up crashing and broke her leg, as the Trolls can be a bit reckless on the bugs.

At the end of Trolls World Tour, Barb is seen teaching Poppy how to ride a Beetle Bike. Despite the fact that Barb can ride these well herself, Poppy's antics on the critter prove to be quite overboard even for Barb.

In "Flyer's Ed", Poppy attended Lownote Jones's flying lessons. Poppy aced the lessons and tests by being a good student, but came second after Val Thundershock, who cheated her way through them. As a result, Poppy wasn't allowed the first ride of Vibe Town. But because she didn't skip sections of the lesson, she knew things Val didn't, though she wasn't able save them from a Glitteroid. Luckily for both, it was a simulation. While it was never seen, Poppy has qualified to drive the Vibe Town spaceship.

Teaching

A duty of her role as leader is to teach young Trolls about their culture and educate them in how to be a Troll. Due to him being a late bloomer, she also includes Branch on a one-to-one level, and occasionally she has to teach the odd lesson to her other friends as well, meaning that her teaching role doesn't end in the classroom at all.

Scheming

Just as Branch is obsessed with safety and paranoid about danger, Poppy is obsessed with over-the-top schemes. She doesn't always see how things can go wrong, and can fail to think things through at times. Despite his warnings and questioning on the success chances of many of her ventures, she ignores Branch's advices much to his annoyance, and as consequence he's then dragged into the scheme because she can't do it alone.

When the two Trolls clash, Poppy has been shown to really go over-the-top to prove that she's better than Branch; she doesn't just beat him, but also proves him completely wrong. In the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Prank Day", she goes into a deep prank just because Branch called himself the "Prank Master", a title she herself had claimed. Later in "Bunker Break-In", she repeated her success over Branch again with an elaborate scheme to capture his flag inside his bunker. In both cases, what separated her from Branch was that while he was on his own and working solo, she was able to get her friends to cooperate. This was seen again in "Mr. Glittercakes", when Poppy got the whole village to beg for Branch to help them carry out excuses to get out of things they found boring. This made Branch say that they should just tell their friends the truth, to which Poppy pulls out a banner with "Branch learned something!" written on it, and says that it was a scheme to make him realize he should have told his friends that he wanted alone time rather than making up excuses.

Branch wasn't the only one to receive the same treatment. In "Snow Day", Poppy tried excessively hard to hit her father with a snowball. Archer Pastry was also subject to days of attempts from her to befriend him before he finally caved in. A lot of the time, these schemes come as result of her positive, never-give-up, determined outlook on life.

Medical Status and Issues

Poppy is shown to be quite agile in both 3D and 2D animations and is of young adult age, she is shown to be physically fit and capable overall.

In "Eye'll Be Watching You", Poppy broke her leg while flyer bug riding. In "Hair Fracture", she broke her hair.

Allergies

Poppy was shown to be allergic to Mittensettias her favorite flower.

Note: In "A Flower For Poppy", a different flower was shown altogether as her favorite - 3D media supersedes 2D media, so officially Mittensettias are her favorite.

Age and Birth Details

Considering that she was a baby when the Trolls escaped from Bergen Town, Poppy is in her early 20s by the main events of the first movie and about 20 at the start of Trolls. It's possible to work out estimates for dates of other Trolls from her starting with the details given in Trolls.

DreamWorks, however, has never provided an actual age for her leading to estimations only being possible. As Trolls World Tour takes place within a year after Trolls, she is not much older in the second movie. Branch wasn't a baby when he lived in the Troll Tree, making him older then Poppy by a few years, and more then 21+ years old. Both are depicted as Trolls in their 20s in Trolls even with their ages unknown, with Branch being confirmed a young adult, thus under 25 years old. As of BroZone's website, it is now confirmed in Trolls Band Together that Branch is 24+ years old. Poppy therefore is younger then 23 years old currently since there is at least 1 year confirmed difference between her and Branch. Since Poppy is 20 in Trolls and Trolls World Tour, her age is now somewhere between 21-23 in Trolls Band Together.

Poppy's star sign is Leo.[18] Poppy's starsign has since been reaffirmed several times by DreamWorks.[19] This places her birthday between 23rd of July and August 23rd.

Etymology

Poppy's name has multiple meanings that refer to her character. The name itself is taken from the color "poppy pink".[20]

Poppy being the Queen of the "Pop Trolls" in Trolls World Tour is a play on her name containing the word "Pop".

The word "poppy" itself means "tuneful and immediately appealing". It also refers to a type of flower, matching Branch's own plant-based name; a "branch" is part of a tree.

According to the Ask Poppy short "Nail Your Morning Routine", her middle name is "Help".

In the Trolls: TrollsTopia episode "Keep It Up", Holly Darlin' speaks Poppy's full name as "Poppy Primrose Springwater". Poppy questions "Primrose", and Holly confirms that she was angry and made something up. However, Poppy never questions "Springwater", leaving it unknown if this is indeed her last name. However, Holly's act of making up "Primrose" still leaves it questionable if "Springwater" was also made up. If it wasn't made up, then Poppy's full name would be "Poppy Help Springwater".

Nicknames

  • "The Prank Master"; was a title that Branch and her fought over in "Prank Day" with Poppy winning the title and thus the ability to boast she is a master of pranking.
  • "Big Poppy"; was Poppy's rap name as mentioned in "Big Poppy".
  • "Popifer"; in Trolls World Tour Branch calls her this after she calls him "Branchifer". The name is likely a pet name, but also a play on names such as "Jennifer".
  • "Popsqueak", "Popsicle" and "Popcorn"; insults that come from Rock Trolls such as Queen Barb and Val Thundershock. Most of these are plays on her name of "Pop", and all are intentionally meant to be insulting.
  • "Ploppy"; an insult from Petra in the episode "Bad Hair Day".

Translations

Poppy's name usually stays the same even when Trolls is translated into other languages. Even if it is translated, it usually keeps a similar pronunciation.

Trivia

General

  • Poppy appears in the most media of any Troll, followed in second by Branch.
  • Poppy is the second protagonist to be featured for DreamWorks Trolls. Harper is the first since she was the protagonist of the book Follow Your Art, which served as a prequel to Trolls.
  • Poppy is the only "Rainbow Troll" family member to ever display rainbow coloration.
  • Poppy is one of the main characters to have 5 voice actors in the franchise.
  • Poppy's voice actress in the movies, Anna Kendrick, admitted that Poppy is a bit of her opposite, so she thought it was fun to explore the regions of constant optimism.
    • Kendrick also said that she and Poppy are both known to sometimes randomly burst into song, but unlike Poppy, she tries to stop it in public.
    • In contrast to Poppy, Kendrick said that she doesn't like hugs very much, and would feel awkward when hugged by cast members.
  • According to the Trolls Twitter account, Poppy is BFFL with Donkey from Shrek.[21]
  • Poppy has so far saved Branch for once, which was in the first movie when she took a dive and rescued him from the reluctant King Gristle Jr., who didn't even want to consume Branch at all.

Specific To...

Trolls
  • In the original script, the party that got attacked by Chef was Poppy's coronation. This is even shown in earlier trailers, where Poppy is wearing her coronation dress instead of her normal outfit. For unknown reasons, this idea was scrapped even though it was fully animated, and the party was changed to the 20 Year Celebration instead.
  • Poppy's baby model in Trolls was reused for Keith.
  • Poppy is a parallel to Gristle; one was a princess who never knew sadness, and the other was a king who never knew happiness.
    • This is no coincidence as Branch and Bridget, their respective love interests, are parallel to each other too.
