"The Makeunder" is the first segment of the 11th episode of the first season of Trolls: TrollsTopia, and the 20th overall episode in the series. It premiered on November 19, 2020.
Synopsis[]
Lownote Jones is so cool that he is always the center of attention at every occasion. But Guy Diamond's birthday party is coming up, and it's important to Lownote that Guy should get all the attention on his special day. So he recruits Branch to give him a "makeunder", and teach him how to blend in at a party.
Plot[]
Lownote Jones is walking along when an envelope is dropped in front of him. Intrigued, he picks it up. Poppy informs him that it's an invite to Guy Diamond's birthday party, who always goes overboard with his birthday and his invite is the most mind-blowing thing. Poppy gets excited but it just says he is invited; Lownote politely scoffs the Pop Troll culture as mundane in comparison to the Funk Troll culture. A bird appears out of nowhere and picks him up, delivering him to a ride where Guy is waiting with a number of animatronics who sing the invitation, as Guy likes to be the center of attention at his party. After the ride is over, Lownote exits the ride covered in glitter. Poppy is there to greet him but Lownote's face is full of horror. He explains that if he goes to the party, he will be the center of attention as he will steal the spotlight without trying.
Lownote explains he has a reputation as the world's coolest Troll. He usually doesn't mind, since it brightens everyone's days; he demonstrates by telling Smidge that her smile is great, which made her faint. The result is that at events even such as weddings, he takes the spotlight from others, with the bride wanting the first dance with him instead of her husband. Poppy sees the problem, as Lownote will take the focus from Guy. When Lownote wishes to tone down his cool for one night, Branch steps forward.
Branch claims he is an expert at being uncool and demonstrates this by falling over while leaning. He explains he started the great contagious yawn of 11 A.B. after telling an incredibly dull story just last week. Branch explains Lownote will have to downplay his total vibe, a complete makeover or makeunder, which Lownote agrees to so Guy can have the birthday of his dreams. A hurdle comes up immediately as Lownote can't identify his own suave cadence in his voice and winks at Branch, although Branch tells him in frustration not to wink. Pulling himself together he says they'll have him ready by party time.
At Guy's party, things are going well and Guy's receiving all the attention, with Tiny telling everyone to celebrate his daddy's birthday. As Lownote enters with Poppy and Branch, Smidge instantly points him out. Trolls approach but Branch tells him it's fine; they'll play it uncool like they practiced. First play is to avoid eye contact, Lownote does this to Gust, who finds it hard to follow his conversation, then he gives Gust nothing but eye contact to the extreme, making Gust feel awkward. Next is laugh too loud at all the wrong times, which Lownote does to Smidge. Then, his jokes have to be long-winded and impossible to follow, Synth gets this one as he loses the Techno Troll, who soon gets bored of the joke.
Poppy applauds Lownote and Branch congratulates him. As they celebrate, Trolls start to yawn and talk about heading home, as Lownote's boring joke started a contagious yawn. To Lownote's horror, Poppy and Branch also get impacted and fall asleep. Guy pulls out his cake and is confused to where the people at his party have gone. Lownote explains it's his fault and tells him what happened.
Lownote says that he did everything Branch taught him too well, and he ended up being so uncool that he stopped the party. Guy says that he would never want Lownote to not be cool. He explains that he wants the real Lownote Jones, whom he invited to his party whether or not he gets to stand in the spotlight or not. As for the party, Guy says everything will still be good next year. Lownote says the party is far from over; though Guy says that's impossible, Lownote says not for the world's coolest Troll.
Using his cool, he finds all the Trolls returning to their homes and tells them the Gala's still on.
At the party, Branch, Poppy and Guy are interrupted from their cleaning as Lownote returns with the party guests. Guy and Lownote dance as Guy notes they get to share the spotlight if it's cool with Lownote, to which Lownote agrees before winking at the audience at the end of the episode, thus breaking the fourth wall.

Trivia[]
- The episode makes a gag on a makeover, which refers to drastically change one's appearance so that they can look better. The "makeunder" term in this episode is basically the opposite of a makeover: a major change to worsen one's appearance.
- Branch mentions the year "11 A.B.", which means "11 years after bunker". He went into his bunker 10 years before Trolls according to Trolls: The Beat Goes On!. It's possible that this indicates the episode takes place a year since the events of Trolls.
- This is the second time the term "A.B." was used. The Pop Trolls' descendants will open the time capsule that Branch invented in the year 3235 A.B., according to the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "BFFF".
- This also lines up with the earlier episode "Cloud Control", where Cloud Guy celebrates his and Branch's "annoyversary", indicating that their relationship has gone on for a year.
- Branch's social awkwardness is a result of him spending 20 years locked in sadness, 10 of which he spent inside his bunker prior to Trolls.
- In Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, it was established that Guy likes to be the center of attention, and he wants to share the spotlight too in episodes such as "Hair Ball", where he insists Smidge got attention as well.
- Guy's birthday was previously mentioned in the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Coop, Where's My Guy?", wherein Poppy was planning a surprise birthday party for him despite it not being his birthday.
- Guy's song bares much resemblance to the song during "The Rimmer Experience" in appearence.
- Lownote Jones winking at the audience at the end of the episode pays another homage to the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Coop, Where's My Guy?", as both Cooper and Lownote wink at the viewers at the end of their respective episodes.
