Plot
[]

The episode starts with flickers over comic book pages as two lights shine in the sky, calling Guy Diamond and Meadow Spriggs into action. Poppy tells the duo that the party needs them as it has become very boring. They strike a hero pose and Holly is confused; Poppy explains the two are "The Life of the Party", a thing from a while back. Using some Punch Plants, Meadow refills the punch bowls of Trolls. Guy tells "Tiny Twinkle" (Tiny Diamond) to go to action and his son spins the discoball. The two celebrate having never lost a party; at that moment the lights go out.

A villain introduces herself and vows revenge by destroying the parties the Trolls hold dear. She turns out to be Marshtato Mary, who has come to exact her revenge from another previous event. The introduction of Mary throws Holly into another round of confusion, as there's even more backstory. Guy quickly explains who she is to Holly. He also points out that she's super adorable, which offends Mary. She pulls a angry face, but this only makes the Trolls go "awww" in response to her anger. She summons her henchcrabs to destroy the party.

Meadow tells Guy to use his ultimate party starting dance move. This move has absolutely no effect on Mary. She whacks the Discoball; Guy tries to save it but can't. He screams until morning. He continues to hold his scream as he does other things. He ends it at his Pod, while Meadow lets him scream it out.

Meadow says they have to find the Party Pooper before she strikes again but Guy hides. Meadow concludes he had lost his confidence. Guy has never experienced this before, to which Meadow tells that the best way to tackle it is to get back out there again. Guy has the idea to form an entire team of Party heroes, as he concludes one doesn't need self-confidence when you have an entire team.

They hold auditions as Trolls come to get the chance to be part of the team. Synth is first up with the ability to manipulate water. As impressive as it looks, he's rejected after he can't come up with a cool catchline. Demo is rejected after a random display, as Demo has no idea he was auditioning for anything at all. Meadow is impressed with the talent seen, as Poppy alerts them to the return of Mary's henchcrabs.

The new Partyin' Guardians team arrive in the Dune Huggy to tackle the disrupted party. The new recruits save the party and Poppy is impressed with there now being an entire team of party-saving heroes. As Guy and the others brag about saving the party, Meadow is suspicious about how easy it was. It turns out Mary was just hanging back waiting for them to let their guard down; she brings in her "Doomsday Critter". The Kitty Critter fires a cannon on its back, which traps Poppy and all the other Guardians except Guy in marshtatoes.

Guy runs away in fear again. Meadow gives a speech to him about him being the only one left to save the party. The Kitty Critter goes after the Disco ball, which would shut the party down if broken like the last time. As the Kitty Critter knocks the ball, he leaps for it, this time saving the ball and thus the party by using his hair to save it. Guy then pulls his Dance move against Mary but this time aims for her Kitty. This works and the Critter is unable to fight anymore.

Though her Critter is dancing, Mary isn't, but the Guardians are now free. Mary is beaten and retreats, vowing revenge again and the episode ends with everyone cheering.

Trivia
[]

  • A "party pooper" is a descriptive term given to someone who spoils everyone else's fun.
  • The episode makes a joke about "pooping", from "party pooper" and "pooping" being used as a slang for "defecate".
  • The episode is a reference to a superhero team.
    • Meadow Spriggs was introduced in the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "The Partier's Apprentice", which already made some references to superheroes. This episode continues on her and Guy Diamond's arc from there.
    • Synth's bit is likely a reference to Aquaman. Aquaman is often a source of ridicule for Comic book fans, since most of his powers relate to the sea many comic book fans label him "useless". This is because unless the storyline goes near the ocean, he is generally considered "useless" compared to other superheroes from DC comics, making him situational. In addition, Aquaman doesn't tend to take much interest in something unless it's a threat to his home, giving him less reason to leave on adventures. Synth's rejection is also a joke at the idea of the Superhero genre versus what Guy and Meadow were after; he has actual powers, they were just looking for Trolls who had the ability to keep a party going.
    • The auditions are likely based on the audition style-recruitment methods of The Legion of Superheroes. During their auditions, potential recruits are asked to show off their skills, sometimes with the Legion being the brunt-end of those who fail them.
    • Guy's and Meadow's belts are a reference to Batman's utility belt worn by Batman and his allies; Guy was already compared to Batman in "The Partier's Apprentice". Guy's spotlight, which is a parody of the one used to summon Batman, is also reused from the episode.
    • Marshtato Mary was introduced in "Marshtato Fairy", and acts as a supervillain. This episode continues her story.
    • Holly's fret over backstories of "The Life of the Party" and "Marshtato Mary" is a jab about comic book backstories.
  • Marshtato Mary's "Doomsday Critter" is a Kitty Critter. It has a unqiue appearance compared to other Kitty Critters previously seen in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!. Its height is somewhere betweeen the smallest and largest of its kind seen in that series. The crabs Mary unleashes are called Finders-Keepers Critters, who also return from Trolls: The Beat Goes On!.
  • The introduction is a parody of the flickering comics of the Marvel Cinematic Universe introduction that plays at the start of every film in the series.
  • The closest Guy has gotten to loss of confidence was the Trolls: The Beat Goes On! episode "Glitter Loss"; however, he lost his pride instead.
  • A storyboard for this episode was uploaded by Jane Kim here.
