The following is a list of notes about potential adaptions and future proof the wiki has to make in the future.
Trolls Franchise - Overall
The current situation is that all DreamWorks-related parts of the Trolls franchise and its flagship Good Luck Trolls franchise are being covered. This includes the original abandoned film, DreamWorks Trolls and Good Luck Trolls, plus any other related adaptions to the franchise.
Each one will be treated as separate entities to each other. For example, the "lore" of "DreamWorks Trolls" is not applied to "Good Luck Trolls" and is regarded as only applicable to "DreamWorks Trolls", likewise the "lore" of "Good Luck Trolls" does not apply to "DreamWorks Trolls", this despite the licensing for both being held by DreamWorks and "DreamWorks Trolls" being regarded as a sub-franchise of "Good Luck Trolls".
Covering Pre-DreamWorks
Currently, two polls have been run post-Trolls World Tour on the matter of covering the pre-DreamWorks era of the Trolls franchise, including information on "Good Luck Trolls", when it was owned by Thomas Dam's "Dam Things" company. The current consensus is that editors and fans do not wish to cover the franchise's pre-DreamWorks era. A final third poll was planned to be run after Trolls Band Together, and results would have been published in this section thereof. However, this plan is now abandoned (see Update - 19th October 2022 for more information)
If popular consensus is to remain focused on the DreamWorks era of Trolls, it will be then left to the community of the wiki to decide in the future if this will change. This means that if the future community, including future bureaucrats, wish to change this they can, but until then the wiki won't host any information on the pre-DreamWorks era except for the brief history of Troll Dolls held by that page.
Under no circumstances will any previous animated media for Good Luck Trolls products be considered a higher priority than installments of the DreamWorks franchise's current era on Trolls Trollpedia. The past media will also not be labelled as part of the "lore" of the existing DreamWorks properties, if the consensus to include them changes in favor of it.
Update - 19th October 2022
After the Trollz wiki appeared "abandoned" Angel Emfrbl proposed a merge of the two wikis, with the closure of "Trollz" occurring.
Based on feedback there were the following notes in regard to this;
- Bureaucrat of Trollz wiki, FatefulWinds, and only remaining representative of the wiki spoke with Angel Emfrbl responded and explained the lack of activity. The two talked and alternative plans are drafted up at this point. Plans are subject to change, but are to make that wiki match ours so it becomes clear the two are related.
- The 3 "problems" were identified by Angel Emfrbl as "workload" (note; that current installations of the franchise will always take priority over inactive), "missing sources" (there is little information left on "Trollz") and "confusion" caused by the coverage, although this is subject to circumstances as identified by "Current Futureproof and Adaption Plans".
- Several editors at the Trolls wiki, as well as FatefulWinds themself, noted the lack of link between the "worlds". Angel Emfrbl did note that the flagship franchise is not "DreamWorks Trolls", but rather the "Good Luck Trolls" and both are products of Good Luck Trolls franchising. The rest of "Futureproof and Adaption Plans" detail further information on this, but adding information for a past licensed property within the Good Luck Trolls franchise would be just as feasible to add to the wiki as future ones.
- It was estimated that for the Trollz information to be brought here, between 50-100 pages would be created. Due to the small size of the series in comparison to the DreamWorks Trolls franchise, this would not have taken up much space.
- Users expressed no desire to find Trollz information while reading DreamWorks Trolls information, though focus would not be given to Trollz on the Trolls Trollpedia and any current animated projects since DreamWorks took over would have had priority, with Trollz being a abandoned property it would have not receive much updates after editing was complete. At best, a planned "Trollz" page link would have been added to the drop-down menus under the menu "story".
- In counter-argument to the previous note, a merger would have allowed all Good Luck Trolls fans to mingle together, with old and new fans able to interact.
- FatefulWinds would have automatically been given admin status minimum, as they already had proven they were more than capable of running the Trollz wiki and keeping it clean.
- Not all Trolls Trollpedia staff members were also on board with the idea.
The ultimate verdict on the proposal is that covering the pre-DreamWorks Trolls era of the Good Luck Trolls franchise is out of the question. All further polls and topics planned with in regard to this have been cancelled. The wiki will only focus on the post-DreamWorks Good Luck Trolls era indefinitely.
This is subject to change, but it will not be carried out by the current Bureaucrat staff unless the Trolls Trollpedia community changes its mind.
We thank everyone for their feedback, especially FatefulWinds's.

List of "Troll" Properties
A current list of noted related products that will not be covered as a result of Update - 19th October 2022 by the wiki beyond mere referencing are:
- The Norfin Adventures - consisted of 3 known animations: "The Great Egg Robbery", "A Norfin Noel" and "Castle of Doom". Norfin Trolls is a noted copyrighted name among the 52 copyright registrations for "Good Luck Trolls", however, little is known on its status or if it is official, though it can be presumed it is.[1]
- Super Trolls - consisted of one short animation. The Super Trolls are listed among the DiC Entertainment copyrighted shows. It is unknown if this is an offical Good Luck Trolls license.[2]
- Treasure Trolls - a toyline with several books "Sparkles", "Snicker Doodle" and "Button Breaker" by Stephen Cosgrove, who also wrote much of the toylines "lore" in addition. It is unknown if this is an offical Good Luck Trolls license. The property is likely official due to DreamWorks Trademark in this name and use of Treasure Trolls as a family for the Trolls era.
- Magic Trolls & the Troll Warriors - a animation pilot for a series that was never made. The animation was a combination of two existing toylines "Magic Trolls" and "Troll Warriors". It is unknown if this is an offical Good Luck Trolls license.
- Stone Protectors - a short lived animated series, toyline and video game that was not an official Good Luck Trolls license.
- Trollz - made by DiC Entertainment, a known officially licensed property for the Good Luck Trolls, it was a one season series. Proof of the licensing being official can be found here.
- Russ - a company that made official Troll dolls during the 80s and 90s and the company behind much of the 1990s craze. Russ was an official license holder.
- The Original Battle Trolls - a Hasbro owned toyline made to profit off of the 1990s Troll craze and is a known unofficial license.
- Trolls video game/Oscar in Toyland - a Trolls product with two sequels, the character of the series was later renamed "Oscar" and was changed from a Troll into a new character in post Amiga releases.
- Trollies Radio Show - a puppet show done in the style of "Muppets", little is known on its status in relationship to official licensing.
- The Troll Company - The company was the official global licensing company of Dam Things following Russ and was responsible for control of licensing of Good Luck Trolls outside of Denmark until DreamWorks took over the distribution of Good Luck Troll products.
Additionally, toylines and other licensing released during the Troll Doll craze and thereafter, but are currently unknown to Staff and Editors of this wiki at this time of writing, are also not covered by Trolls Trollspedia unless linked to DreamWorks.
For more detailed information of the history of the Trolls, see Troll Dolls.
Potential Reboots, Spin-offs and Expansions
The current plans established in case of a reboot of the Trolls movie is simply a renaming; for example, "Trolls" will become a name like "Trolls (G1)".
The page "Troll Dolls" will hold information on the source material of all expansions to the Trolls franchise, and will be the default source of information on all things related to the franchise's conceptual origins. However, pages such as the one for the species known as "Trolls" will have to be renamed. For each iteration of the franchise, each will have a page dedicated to their version of the species "Troll". For example, the current (now) "Trolls (Species)" page will simply be renamed with a title like "Trolls (species - G1)".
The Canon Policy will also be updated and a separate entry for the new Rebooted lore will be created, while other canons are altered accordingly.
Note that the exact naming of each part of the franchise will actually be based upon the most popular name used by the fanbase at the time of initial writing, and can be subject to rewrites if another becomes popular. So the example "G1", as exampled above, is not to be taken as the wiki's intended name nor its desired name. If an official name is provided, this will be used over fan options.
If Good Luck Trolls or another spin-off of the Trolls franchise is made, a similar event will occur to that of a "reboot", i.e. the wiki will rename pages accordingly to that most popular name among the fanbase, and establish new pages for that part of the franchise. The wiki will be dedicated to covering all parts of "DreamWorks Trolls" no matter what.
Execution of Project
For the time being, this plan remains inaction since DreamWorks has only produced a single Good Luck Trolls product, DreamWorks Trolls and no spin-offs have been planned. However, extracts of The Art of DreamWorks Trolls World Tour mention during the creation of Riff that they could see him getting a spin-off. This remains the only mention of such a possibility. This is also not a certainty to happen.
The current suggestions and plans for future proofing the wiki remain inactive until a time comes for them to become active, if at all. When such an event occurs, discussions will take place among editors, who should refer back to this page in reference before in-acting the plans above. If there are no unforeseen issues or concerns to address, then the wiki will progress forward accordingly.
All discussions must conclude within a month of any announcement (note; that this is not a deadline), otherwise delayed editing risks loosing sources of information or going off discussion. After editing has commenced, any further discussions must be constructive criticism aimed at aiding the editors working on the wiki.
Progress should only be halted if serious concerns or issues arise that are related to the subject. For example, While the wiki covers modern Good Luck Trolls as it is a joint-license of DreamWorks, it will obviously not cover a series made by a 3rd party that does not include or mention DreamWorks licensing i.e. if Pixar or Illumination made a movie based upon the franchise without DreamWorks being involved at all. While this may not have been known at the time of the wikis planning, it would cause the updates to halt immediately with related articles being removed. Alternative methods to file, order or name articles are concerns to halt progress, though to make adjustments rather then flat-out deletion of articles.
Non-DreamWorks Trolls properties are covered by The Troll Dolls wiki and should be posted in there instead. Alternatively if related to Trollz, it will be on that aforementioned wiki instead.
Additional notes
Other DreamWorks properties that are noted for their expanded universes for reference:
- How To Train Your Dragon - in addition to covering the films, related specials and TV shows, the books, two spin-off series "Dragons: Rescue Riders" (a series set for young children and no relation to the main series) and "Dragons: The Nine Realms" (a post-HTTYD 3 TV series set in the future) were created. In addition, a live action adaptation based on the original "How to Train Your Dragon" movie is set to be released in 2025, though details remain mostly unknown about the project.
- Shrek - as well as the main movies and special, spin off "Puss in Boots" movies have been created. A current "Reboot" movie is in production.
- Kung Fu Panda - currently has additional series that are separate adventures from the movies as well as TV series to back up movies. These currently are all related and are set in the same "universe" but have are different parts of the overarching story.
- Madagascar - currently has several spin-offs, including "The Penguins of Madagascar" and "All Hail King Julien", though they are set at various stages of the franchises timeline.
A number of DreamWorks properties have had series that go with their movies, with Dreamworks even returning to older project Megamind in 2022, 12 years later after its release in 2010, despite its initial movie having a lackluster response. However, not all movies by DreamWorks are certain to have a expanded universe or will have further editions after the initial movie and TV show. This is notable for movies such as Shark Tale, although these movies (including Megamind) were considered part of DreamWorks "experimental era" of animation.
For more information, see the DreamWorks Animation Wiki.
Other Suggestions?
The above plans are based upon the experience held by other wikis of franchises, and how they have tackled the same issues. The wiki is open to further suggestions and opinions regarding this matter. If you have any further ideas, please post them in our discussions. As such, these plans are subject to expansions and rewrites as information becomes available from DreamWorks or is discovered by fans.
