Trolls Trollpedia

This policy page is related to upcoming movies, TV series and TV specials in the DreamWorks Trolls franchise, and concerns related trailers, merchandise and tweets. It lists all the rules on this wiki that concern the addition of information related to major movie plot points, character development, etc.

Note that spoilers on this site are regarded as any summary, description, remark, image, or other means of submitting information which reveals important plot elements and/or outcomes of a piece of fictional media. Such information has the ability to "spoil" the enjoyment of such media for the article reader by taking away the suspense and dramatic tension the reader would have otherwise experienced with the media.

Because the Trolls Trollpedia sustains a non-written respect policy to its readers and contributors, we want the community to show that same respect to those who haven't yet seen, played, or read a particular piece of DreamWorks Trolls media.

When Can I Create A Page?

As soon as a project is declared related to Trolls, its page can be added. There is no restrictions here, as information needs to start to be gathered as soon as possible.

Likewise, character pages can be added as soon as they are confirmed.

Trolls Band Together Update - Character Page Creation

As of Trolls Band Together, the wiki has been forced to update the rules related to character page creation to be more specific on when a character can have a page.

Characters must meet the following criteria:

  1. They must be named.
  2. They do not get a page unless the resulting page is more than a stub article (roughly 500 words).
    • Exception to this rule is a named Troll, as it is preferred all Trolls that are named have articles.
  3. The character has an available image of themselves and they have had their name introduced via a source material. This could be a poster, an art book such as The Art of DreamWorks Trolls, a trailer, a tweet, etc. Please do not use photographed images from fairs or promotional events. Please also do not link a image of a character to a name unless the character is confirmed to carry that name.

This change was due to several editors rushing to create pages for characters such as "Viva", "Velvet" and "Veneer" without who the character was being named. The resulting pages editors created contained information that was 1 sentence long and was made up of less then 50 words in that sentence. At the time of the first trailer, much of the character cast had been named, however, only the members of BroZone had been identified.

Flora and Fauna with no major roles are listed only on Flora and Fauna unless named specifically - see Debbie or Mr. Dinkles as such examples.

When Can I Add Movie "Spoilers"?

As of note of the release of Trolls World Tour, while the movie was released in the United Kingdom on April 6, 2020, this was not an universal release date for all territories. For example, the United States didn't receive the movie until April 10 of the aforementioned year. This caused a concern with plot-related material being added to the wiki too soon, and due to a majority of the wiki's traffic coming from the US concerns about "spoilers". Because of the difficulty with some editors being unable to see the movie soon enough to allow them know what edits were and weren't correct, this meant fact checking was limited for a large number of both viewers and editors. The early releases also prevented some editors from editing during release months entirely.

The wiki's policy is to update its pages with new information as soon as possible. However, this started a problem as a significant amount of its visitors come from North America.

In light of the release of this film, the policy for adding spoilers is as follows:

  • As soon as territorial release information is available, a Bureaucrat or Admin will gather the dates together.
  • From the date of the earliest cinema release, the Bureaucrat or Admin must declare a date in which editors can start adding the movie details from.
  • The declared date must be within a month of the movie's first release. For example, in the case of Trolls World Tour, the earliest release date was 20th March, 2020; therefore, the closing date for prolonging the addition of is 20th April, 2020. In this movie's case, the date was declared to be 10th April, 2020, the date of the movie's US release.
  • Until the declared date, major movie plot points will be limited. For more information, please read the rest of this page on what can be added.

The issue is also that even with official information releases, things were misunderstood. With Trolls World Tour, a number of unofficial source had old information or misunderstood information which upon the release of the movie proved to be incorrect. Official information is the safest method of application. This is not helped by confirmation that the movie had many last changes even during its late development cycle when the first trailers were being dropped in 2019, so even official sources would contain errors removed from the movie. The spoiler restrictions also allow time for information in this state to be processed correctly.

Interpretations and Changes

Information must be correct. One of the issues related to Trolls World Tour is that some information was subject to misintrepretation. Editors need to be careful they understood everything on display.

For example, the joke for the scene where Hickory, Poppy, Branch and Biggie fall of a ravine had multiple versions. Though the 6 main Strings were listed (Pop, Rock, Country, Classical, Funk and Techno), as promotions continued, the Hinterland Trolls (Smooth Jazz, Reggaeton, K-Pop and Yodelling) were added to the list. Early promotions cited that Barb's reason for getting the Strings was jealously towards Pop, but in the movie the reason was given as because Barb was uniting the Trolls under Rock.

DreamWorks was known to change lines, scenes, character designs as late as 2019, mere months from the movie's release. This led to some fans and editors to misunderstand what they were looking at. It also impacted merchandise related to the movie and ads for the movie itself. With this in mind, all editors need to be careful when adding information.

TV Series and TV Specials

The only restriction applied to TV series and specials is that any movie tied to them must have also reached the point it can be added to the wiki. For example, Trolls World Tour must be fully allowed on the wiki for Trolls: TrollsTopia information to be added to pages. Otherwise, pages can be updated as soon as the TV series is released.

Copyright Claims

As of Trolls: Holiday in Harmony, images have been subject to copyright claims from DreamWorks. This has caused a delay in uploading.

If copyright claims occur to images related to a media source, please refrain from adding more to pages. Instead, wait until Admins and Bureaucrats give premission to add images on the page again. A member of staff will give the "go ahead" when its felt enough time has passed the copyright claims are no longer valid.

For more information about Copyrights, see the Copyrights page on the subject.

Sources

There are no restrictions in place to link to sources that contain "spoilers", as those sites aren't covered by Fandom's policy. So long as the site being used as a reference to information is official, there are no restrictions whatsoever.

Any Other Restrictions?

Blogs, comments and discussions aren't allowed to discuss plot points related to the film. Speculations are allowed on the wiki, but must cease one month prior to the movie's first initial release date.

What Does It Affect?

Only related articles to the restricted movie, TV shows, etc. that are upcoming and have yet to be released. Any other edits are unaffected by these restrictions.

While the Queen Poppy article was affected during Trolls World Tour by the movie's related restrictions, the restriction did not prevent edits to it. Trolls, Trolls Holiday and Trolls: The Beat Goes On! edits were still allowed on the article.

Because of FANDOM's policy, articles will remain open unless otherwise. However, articles will be locked under extreme circumstances to prevent edits if editors cannot abide to the Spoiler Policy.

What's The Punishment For Ignoring This Policy?

The rules are the same as if you vandalized the wiki.

Comments, blogs, discussions, etc. will also be deleted in addition, and edits reverted.

If this continues, you will be blocked.

Sources

The following are notes of source material and how to handle them.

Trailers

Trailers are released material meant to hype up a film or TV show and interest viewers in going to see the film or TV show. Trailer related material can be added to the wiki as soon as it is made available.

There may be certain elements that are not allowed, but a bureaucrat or admin will leave notes on pages related to them using the "hide" wiki code <!--- and !--->. Normally, this is due to concerns with some aspects of the trailer, such as the context of the event and how it could lead to a misinterpretation.

Social Media Accounts

This is concerning official social media accounts such as the DreamWorks Trolls Twitter account. Similar to trailers, this is material put out to generate hype for the release of an upcoming movie. Material related to the Twitter account can also be added to the wiki.

However, editors should be aware that official social media accounts often release material from abandoned concept ideas and designs. Thus, changes can be made from what's seen in photos, story drafts and finished scenes.

Posters

Official movie posters of characters can be added to the wiki as soon as they're made available, as can the characters themselves be added. These are put out by DreamWorks themselves as another form of movie hype.

Novelizations

Novelizations related to movies can be added to the wiki as soon as they're available. However, wiki coding will be put in place until the date of declaration for movie updating to restrict visibility.

Novelizations often contain ideas that were rejected from the films. For example, Trolls: The Junior Novelization has the initial party that Chef crashes as Poppy's coronation instead of the anniversary of the escape from Bergen Town, as it was in Trolls. In addition, Trolls Holiday: The Junior Novelization contained events that didn't happen in the original special. This results in a mixture of reliable and unreliable information.

Toys/Figurines/Accessories/Etc.

Merchandise often contains aspects of the movie's plot. However, there are issues with using merchandise as a plot gauge.

Tiny Dancers Series 3

A The Tiny Dancers wave with an older concept of a K-Pop Troll and Prince D under his design based on Chance the Rapper, who was originally set to voice the character.

For example, merchandise is subject to creative licensing at times, and therefore doesn't often reflect the movie's final product. The best example of this is concerning the character of Branch. His colors in merchandise have often varied between his initial grey Troll color scheme and his "True Colors", with his "True Colors" scheme either featuring him as an all blue Troll or a green and blue one. The result is that Branch can be represented by three different interpretations of his color schemes, whereas all other Trolls have just their single color scheme. This makes merchandise an unreliable source material with exceptions. In Trolls World Tour, this included late changes to the movie that resulted in merchandise released with the older designs.

There have also been examples of some merchandise being created that feature characters who didn't appear in the movie, or weren't even officially created for it. For example, while Nova Swift and Gia Grooves have merchandise related to them, they don't appear in any of the Trolls-related material, and were originally created as original toyline characters. They did appear later in Trolls: The Beat Goes On!, though there are other examples of characters who don't appear anywhere in the Trolls franchise, such as Wim, Arabesque and Rudy.

Merchandise is restricted to the spoiler guidelines, and won't be allowed on the wiki until the date of declaration for movie updates.
